  • Newbie from Iowa

Hey guys. Just wanted to introduce myself. name is Jim, work for a custom auto/marine shop in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Picked up a 1980 XS1100 for trade of compound bow I haven't used in years! LOL. It was missing the coils because he said they were bad. However I got it home and was disassembling it to blast the paint off and found 3 of the 4 petcock valve clogged with rust. So I cleaned up the tank, found some 79 coils on eBay for $30 and guess what....it runs!

Only issue I have now is the left side seems to consistently run fuel and won't shut off so it leaks down the bike. So probably need to rebuild the petcocks and clamp down some fuel lines and I should be set!

      Leaking

Check and make sure the gas is not coming from the air box. You might have a leaking float valve in one of the carbs as well. Also, check you engine oil and make sure it is not contaminated.
