    'LO Everyone.

just defected from the UK TRIKER forum to join this fine forum.

i own a 1980 xs1100sg, an ex san diego highway patrol bike, brought into uk in 1987, and is now an almost completed lowrider fatbob style trike, hardtail.

i have just read a top article on fitting a steering damper to my xs,(known as'the MONGREL' cos shes not pure, and is made up of various bikes!)

and a damper is DEFFO needed on a hardtail trike!!

i'll be visiting here and reading with interest, as ive found great info here already, such as balancing carbs, such so that i dashed up to Wales yesterday to buy meself a set of Morgan carbtune guages!

    all the best,

    Lev

Howdy, and welcome to the forum!

A trike you say? We need pictures!

Oh, and you need a .sig file, Lev!

If you look toward the left side of your monitor you'll see an entry called 'User CP'.

As you may have already guessed, 'User CP' is the User Control Panel and when you click on it you can see the options you can set. Under 'Settings and Options' is an link to your sig file.

Put the year/model/whatever information you can think of in your .sig and it will appear at the end of your posts.

      Hi Mark and welcome,
I used a WER semi-rotary steering damper to calm the headshake on my sidecar rig; that and reefing the steering head bearings down far tighter than I would on a solo bike.
I'd suppose a trike will steer heavy, same as a sidecar rig?
What I did was to swap in the triple trees from a Standard. This moves the Special's fork tubes forward to reduce the bike's steering trail and thus lighten the steering.

        Get on, Stateside Bro's!

('get on' is cornish fer 'howdy!')

yeah, hardtail trike is very hard to control at low speeds,

the bars shake from side to side like a terrier with a rat!

but as soon as you pick up speed, it smooths out and handles just fine.

i'd like to put pics on here of the 'MONGREL', but cant see how to post pics from my own pc......

and i'll be tightening down my headstock bearings to see if that helps.

ive got a 1200 vmax front end, with forks up through top slab 2 1/2", to get trail down to around 3", and a steering damper fitted as i saw on a post from this forum, with a stainless steel bracket in place of where you mount oil cooler.(dont have an oil cooler on this xs)
