Wow, I totally missed your post, 'Bug! I hope your son is alright!
Like everyone else said: Ke bareful with that compost, uh, composite board!
Wear a bandanna under your helmet and bring a couple of extras so you can change them when they get dirty/sweaty. It'll keep your helmet from getting grungy and it will help keep you from getting a heat rash on your scalp.
A helmet traps heat and moisture so it does basically the same thing for your head that boots do for feet and motorcycle seats do for monkeys!-- Scott

+1 on ur son being ok,
jat, with the sissy bar set up u have atm it can have a tendancy to make u sit more upright than u might other wise would have, this can cause stress on ur tailbone and pain, try leaning a little forward which should help take that pressure off and keep hydrated in that heat.
have a safe trip.pete

there is a DFW wing of the CAF
The Commemorative Air Force has a wing in Dallas Fort-Worth that may be worth checking out - I loved that stuff...

Greg - I didn't see your link
That is the wing I was thinking of for the CAF - I used to LOVE to go visit those old planes with my Dad -

Well, I took the advice and created a new Seat board out of birch plywood. It gave me a reason to build my own router table at the same time!
I put a notch in the board in the front/center and added a strap. This allows me to grab the strap from the front and pull it up under my butt while riding. I tested it, and it deploys great! The seat also adds a bit of security, since I'm sitting on it, I know the board won't fly away. After I'm done with it, I am able to quickly slide it to the rear, behind my back, and I can pull off the freeway to stop for gas. At that point, I slide it back under the backrest until I decide to deploy it again.
The loop on the front of the seat cover makes a great holder for the strap as well, and prevents me from pulling the board too far forward.

You know, that actually looks pretty cool and you got a router table out of the project too. Nice work!-- Scott

By the way...
I wouldn't waste your money on the Science and History museum. It used to have some great exhibits... then they remodeled, got rid of all of the cool stuff and replaced it with some moderately cool stuff and exhorbitant admission prices.
My neighbors always know of good stuff to do that's relatively inexpensive. I'll try to get a list of different things...
The Botanical Gardens are nice and free... but it's too dang hot (109 today and tomorrow, then 108, 105 and finally cooling off to 101 next week) to walk around in the heat if you don't absolutely have to... and with your son's current condition, might not be a great idea.
I hope he's doing better very soon!81 SH Something Special

Thanks Kat. Unfortunately, my trip is now up in the air... My ex has managed to brainwash my son into believing that riding on the bike in TX is too dangerous, because the drivers are crazy there... Someone also managed to scare him into thinking that he might pass out on the back of the bike and fall off. The thing that gets me is that this isn't some NEW thing that just happened. It's a condition that was simply recently identified. He's ridden fine here with me many times, and ENJOYED it, with no issues! He's also convinced that puting on a helmet and jacket will make him too hot. I refuse to accept that from anyone, anywhere. Temps are never an excuse not to ride as far as I am concerned...
I told him that my only transportation is my bike, so I am limited there. SWMBO needs our only car while I'm on the trip, and I can't afford to rent a car while I'm there. The ex volunteered to drop him off in ONE PLACE for the day, then pick him up at the end of the day. I don't plan to spend one whole day in any one place! This is MY time with my son, and I should be able to take him anywhere, at any time I choose...
If he can convince his mother to be an on-call taxi, willing to go wherever we want, then I'll go, but I'm not going to waste the hundreds it will cost for this trip to sit around and be controlled by my ex.1980 XS850SG - Sold

If you don't go,she wins. The trip is already going to cost hundreds. Rent a car for a day and take him where you want to go. Rent a nice one and have a day you BOTH will remember.
Good luck bug
