  • "Hyperbikes" of 1981...

I've was doing a little searching for information on a 1981 Kawasaki GPz 1100 and came across a cool article about "Hyperbikes". Its a good read but, couldnt understand why they wouldnt add a Yamaha to the mix. Either way, it was a cool read.

I think a long term goal of mine is to own a liter bike from every manufacture... got one of the best already, not a bad start!

"What they do have is an implacable, unrelenting presence and movement that bespeaks massive power lurking behind paint and chrome. They don't wail like a screeching ninja, the don't rumble like a harley. They just growl like a spactic, stressed out badger waiting to rip your face off and eat your soul." Trainzz~RIP~

The XS was never in the same class as far as handling went; it is arguably a much better 'all-around' bike compared to these, but Yamaha didn't have a competitor for these until the FJ appeared...

I was surprised to learn that Suzuki developed a 16 valve head for their engines that early. Do the FJ's have 8 or 16 valves? I know it wasnt until '89 when Yamaha stole the show with the FZR 20 valve genesis motor, crowned super bike of the decade in '89. I have been contemplating my next bike, got it narrowed to like 4 or 5 bikes. Yamaha FZR 1000, Kawasaki ZRX1200R, Yamaha FZ1 (possibly the FZ8?)...pipe dreams...
