Black Beast

this bike was rebuilt partially from my 78 XS11OO Standard that was stolen and blownup and found in Lake Michigan in Chicago. i bought this with a Windjammer but wanted my old bike style back, so i sold the Windjammer, stripped the 78's parts and this is what i created. i had no headlights, front turn signals (still no front turn signals but wired bulbs and sockets inside the headlight). replaced the lame 85mph speedo guage set with the Standards 160mph unit. and put the Kirker pipe on it this past month i R&R and cleaned the carbs. i installed a cruise control, flushed brake system , new rear pads and cleaned it up. the pix is from b4 i did a thorough cleaning, but looks great 4 sitting in 1 place 4 15yrs. i got sidetracked with a 94 Honda CBR1000F ive rebuilt twice after 2 wipeouts. now both bikes look new.

Hi Michael,
kudos on building what you wanted from what you had.
I swapped a Standard tank onto my Special and had to swap the Special's low fuel thermistor in too so the red light would work.
How did you cope with hooking up the Standard tach's fuel gauge?
Or do you just keep a careful eye on your trip odometer?

exactly the last stated, i just reinstalled the original 85mph guages so i could see the rear T/S since the front sockets r wired in the headlight so they work, and look 4 that stupid "fuel light" b4 i run out of fuel. its only a 4 gal tank for some reason.

hey Tom. great to see a local fellow XSer i ive in Gurnee off RT120. where u at? i guess im gettin older and wiser. im likin the retro look. wish i had a round headlight and front signals. i built this bike almost 20 years ago! it had 8600 mi on it back then as a Bank repo. now only has only 13,500. i put it away aft buying a 94 CBR1000F that i rebuilt to factory condition. started watching Cafe Racer bike resto series i got me back to the BEAST.

BTW i was in Lake Geneva on Sat. perfect riding weather. we took Rt 43 west of Geneva up tp I894 east to I94 south. was a great ride!

Like the seat. Project 11 special I am working on came with a king and queen seat with a high back. My thought was it would look cool if I cut the back down. In face it would look very much like yours.
