I just found it to be very interesting piece of history.
Funny how the famous poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow doesn't quite match the real story.
And neither do most history books.

Thanks for the link, Greg, that was a good read if a little challenging for me tonight.
It looks like the OCR software may have had problems but that could just be me, so, the pome scans better but the letter is vetted!

i thought i knew the history
but the letter really paints the picture. i visited boston as a teen during the bicentennial celebration and got the same watery tour guide version as the poem.
goes to show you really need to dig into history for the whole story.
