This site is really global so

I would have included current or retired military other nations. My self I was Canadian Artillery then Engineer for 27 years. Wound up with the XS by test riding one at a bike show. Just couldn't get off it and walk away. Been with me ever since.

This is why i didn't pose the question utilizing the words United States before any of them...most countries have at least one of these...i dont know a country who doesn't anyway... arty and engineers are jobs, those are not a specific type of military...otherwise there'd be hundreds of different branches of military...take for instance I'm a Communications Tech...then theres Motor Transport, and Engineers, and EOD, and grunts, and so on and so forth...I know that canada has the Canadian Forces in which it combines Army, Navy, and Airforce all under one command, but you would still fall under one of the three...but of course you know this, so please dont think i'm trying to school you...however there might be others wondering the same thing about your comment...

For anyone wondering the same thing if your from canada or a country whos military is similar, you can vote which one side of the house you belonged to due to all of your military falling under the same command the Canadian Forces.

                oops a double post...

82nd eh?...I was out in iraq in 2005 with 106 signal out of fatalburg...which was part of airborn...they even gave me an airborn patch for being attached to them...and if i ever joined the army, which i wont, i'm getting out and staying out...been away from my family for 2 years now and dont want to do it any more...but if i ever did join the army i would rate to wear their patch for serving in a combat zone with them...funny story...they asked us Marines who were there to man a 1mile long wall because intel came down that there was going to be an attack on it...there were six of us...imagine 6 Marines spread out over a 1mile long wall guarding the entire thing...we also only had m-16s and not a single crew served weapon...Got a good chuckle out of it...when the sgt 1st class asked us why we were all laughing we told him, we only have 6 Marines here, and no crew serve...his reply was I figured you Marines could shoot em before they got to the wall...my reply was, well we certainly could shoot them, that is if our 5.56 rounds could penetrate the ballistic glass they had on the vehicles they were using to break through a wall and detonate a bomb...he agreed that did sound a bit off...we went back to playing spades...woulda been an awesome fire fight though...ping, ping, ping...BOOM! 82nd aint so bad...

                    Poll

Sorry been sick for awhile. Think Geezer passed me his pnuemonia via the internet. Weather has been so darn wet here lately, it's not helping. Anyway your comments are acurate of course. amalgamation of the tri services here did not go over well. And you only see that crest worn by admin types. To preserve unit identity and foster espirt de corps, regiments and wings etc. opt for their own colors and badges. Your poll is fine just the way it is. Hope more chime in though. Anyone one know off hand just how many members are part of this site? Just wondering how many of these bikes are left. We all seem to own more than one. I keep looking when I'm on the road and I believe I'm the only one around my immediate area. The dealer knows of no others. So they are becoming an endangered species.

Mack, I too have thought the same thing, I have seen one other XS11 in the area here. Which i thought was great, but out of the huge number of Motorcycle owners that there are here in Sunny SoCal, i find it crazy that there aren't more. The reason i think the dealers don't know of any others, as i too have asked around and found that none believe there are any, is due to the fact that most actually do most of their own maintenance and fixes themselves. Which seems to make the dinasours appear extinct. Take for instance my XS11, My bike sits in my garage as my toy to work on as a project and I know others who have old bikes as well that dont actually ride them very often due to knowing that after every ride they will have some mainenance to do on them. Of course i do know those who ride them more often have less issues to deal with, as it seems that the more the bike is used the less maintainance there is to do. Many people have more than one bike so that makes their old one less apt to be seen out on the road due to them riding their other, more reliable bikes more often.

I've seen one other in the local area, although there are two guys just a little south of me (Lodi and Stockton), and one east over by Reno, and then the guys over by the coast, but yeah, there are not a lot of us, but I run into guys all the time that used to ride them, and of course I bought mine from someone . I do agree though, since most of us do our own work (in part out of cheapness and in part out of enjoyment and the rest in self defense), the dealers mostly don't know about them. Unfortunately they do know about the 650's cause there seem to be a LOT of them still hanging around. That said, my dealer knows that mine is still around as I do go in and order parts once in a while. I haven't heard of any others in the area yet though, but I'm keeping my eyes and ears open.

I was stationed in Giebelstadt with the 8th batallion 43rd air defense (Patriot) way back during the cold war. Our biggest battle was getting the German firefighters on post to sell us a rack of beer after the PX had closed. Huge thanks to those who have fought and still are fighting the bigger battles!
