  • Very Proud! SFC Petry to receive MOH

My team took care of Sergeant Petry when he came through Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in 2008 while I was deployed. He was very humble and unassuming and quite independent - refusing assistance with simple tasks, insisting on learning how to fend for himself without his right hand.

I am proud to have known so many fine servicemembers - and glad to see him receive our nation's highest honor.

    MOH well deserved

Certainly a very brave young man and deserving of this highest of military medals. Interesting that you said that he is very "unassuming". My experience has been that those that say the least have probably done the most in battle. Glad you had the honor to meet him.

I'm a former Marine and I have a great deal of respect for the young people (young to me anyway ) serving today. Congratulations to SFC Petry and thank you. He's given his best for his buds and and his country I hope he attains all the best that this country has to offer. Pretty cool for you to have worked with him. Now because of you we all have a small personal story to share about SFC Petry, and that kind of connects us all as Americans. When I was in I met a USMC Captain with the MOH I saw full Generals snap to and salute him. Being a very young corporal I was damned well impressed. He was also a quiet guy. Again Congrats to SPF Petry.

I second what blkryno writes above. Being an old Screaming Eagle of the 101st Airborne, it is refreshing every time I meet a young Soldier, Sailor, Airman or Marine. When the Constitution was signed Ben Franklin said, "We have created a Republic today, if we can hold onto it". Remember, all these young men and women have volunteered to protect us, our Republic and our constitution.

Meeting a Medal of Honor recipient is an honor in itself and few even know such a hero. I shook hands with an old vet with the Medal at the WWII Museum here in New Orleans once. I am now 62 and it literally sent goose bumps across my whole body when we shook hands. So congratulations to Sergeant Petry.
