    How do I know?

How do I know if or when my reg/rectifier is getting close to failure? Is there a way to test?

Or should I just order one for possible future need?

    Thanks
    John

There is a test procedure in the manual. Requires a multimeter. Pretty simple, actually. Generally, they either work, or they don't. It's not a gradual failure.

Clean all the connections and pack them with dielectric grease and the reg/rec and the rest of the electrical system will all last longer. This isn't expensive to do but done right the project will eat up a weekend...

I was thinking of doing T C's alternator mod, but your reg is doing just fine. Hope you are better soon, and can keep up the fine work. I am almost 73, and still going strong. Hang in there!!!
Thanx for the offer. I'm looking to hire a guy I know from church. This guy has some gunsmithing experience so the machine work I need done will be easy for him. I left a message and now I'm waiting.

I don't have much energy to speak of. I turned down going target shooting with a friend because I know I don't have the strength to drive home afterward...

              If only closer

I have a small machine shop and electrical things are my bag except more in the machine control area. I could certainly do the rectifier modifications and all I would need is one that you have done only before it's potted. Electronics stores locally for parts and good electronic skills in house. Maybe we can make a deal to carry on for you temporarily.
