  • Dropping rear brake lever

Okay, so I am a big guy with big feet and big boots, and the current position of the rear brake lever is killing me! I either have to let my foot rest on and therefore ride the brake, raise it up while riding which makes my muscles cramp up, or ride with my foot to the side of the lever, which means I have to lift my foot and sometimes end up snagging my boot. Not the most confidence-inspiring thing for a new rider .

So, noticing that the brake lever slips onto a splined shaft, and secures with a set screw, would there be any problem in rotating the brake lever downward an inch or so? This would allow me to actually use the foot peg correctly, and given the small amount of travel in the brake pedal, I don't think this would hinder braking ability.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm a wrencher, but new to bikes!

Hey, Danny, welcome to the forum!

Yes, you can change the position of the rear brake lever on the splines and it'll work fine.

That's part is setting up a bike for yourself. Get the whiter and brake in a good spot, move the bars, rotate the controls, fiddle with suspension. It is all part of the dun to get the bike set and comfortable for YOU!

Great! Thank you for the welcome and the help -- it'll be nice to ride without worrying about panic stops or my foot cramping up . I love the ergonomics of the bike otherwise, it isn't too heavy, and is still big enough for my big (6'4", 340lb) butt.

If the spline adjustment is too coarse, there's a 'fine' adjustment in the linkage rod between the master cylinder and the linkage, along with an upper stop adjustment on the frame...
