    Extreme test

    Went for a ride this weekend and it turned out to be an extreme tire test. I wasn't planning on such a long ride because the rear tire was without tread. When I got back after a longer ride than I originally planned I looked at the rear tire this is what I found....



    It's a Michelin, Pilot Activ with 4800 miles on it.... and the last bit of them was carving twisties with too much aggressive action. Luckily most of that wear was on the edges.

      Oh yeah

      New one ordered, be put on tomorrow. I've also arranged for a new one in Ithaca, NY for pickup around June 1 for my return trip to Cantafordya. Hopefully this new one will last 'till then.

        I had one of those experiences myself about two years ago or so. Original tire on my previous SH. No idea how many miles were on it, but in less than 3k it went form looking new to work on the sides and then the center looked like yours. That is when you look and go Oh SH!T. Glad I made it home!

          Geez I can't imagine why you of all people would wear out a tire. Dammit man slow that machine down!!!!

              4800 miles seems a little low... what's your opinion on that tire, like it? What are you going to next? Ithaca NY is my area, lots of beautiful country I could show ya if you have a bike with you! Are you in NY now till June? We should get together!

                  Looks like a commuter tire. You sure about those twisties?

                      I know some of you are wondering how a great tire could wear down with that mileage, but I have seen Planedick in action on his xs,,,,nothing but a blur most of the time, and vapor behind him in the twisties. If he holds it under 90 on the freeway its usually to slow for gas. He is a great rider, just glad there was no accident from it. Mike in Sun Diego
