I Know What You All Mean

I Wish I Had The Time and The Cash TO Rebuild my 81 XS 1100. But I Don't So I AM Still Trying TO SELL WHat IS LEFT OF MINE TO ANY ONE THAT NEEDS PARTS FOR THIERS I CAN'T BRING MY SELF TO JUST JUNK IT . THERE IS NO EXHUST AND THE FRAM IS TOAST BUT I HAVE ALL THE REST IN GOOD TO BETTER CONDITION + SPARE PARTS I HAD TAKEN MOST OF THE FRONT END OFF TO MOUNT A VETTER FARRING . THE FARRING DIDN'T HAVE A CHANCE.

I have to admit that I'm surprised at the longevity of this thread. I guess it's a testament to how much everyone loves these bikes. Ride on!

You can have the key to my XS when you pry it from my cold dead hands.
If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game. (borrowed from strom)
The idea is to die young............as late as possible.

Last year I bought a 78 1100 after about 12 years of no riding (about 1 day longer that I have been married, hmmm!) My last bike was/is a 79 Cb750K, first year the DOHC showed up on the CB750. That bike and this xs both have a tendency to yank your arms out of your sockets when you nail the throttle. The XS was a trial to see how a bike fits into the family unit, and the good news is my wife has blessed the purchase of a new bike, whatever I want. But after looking around for 3 months i think I want another XS. I am not really excited about all the Vtwins out there, I really thought about a Vmax, the royal star (started negotiating with a bike shop for one of these with the Vmax cams, stock these things are about the same HP as an XS and 150-200lbs heavier) I checked out some Valks on Ebay, but just not really fond of the look. The FJR1300 is tempting but 1) AAA will not insure it 2) isn't there a fine line between cool and insane?
So.. I think there are 7 models of the XS1100 and coincidentally there are 7 days of the week. I figure I could get to about 4 before SWMBO lowers the boom this this plan.
                          Scott
I have a bike and I am not afraid to use it

I have been thinking about buying a new bike lately (the past year or so), mainly to upgrade to something newer, more reliable, better parts availability. I have taken several I was interested in for test rides and when I got back to the bike shop and got back on my old XS to leave, I couldn't help but think "this old bike is smoother/ faster/ more comfy/ etc. I really like this old bike, I wouldn't give it up for that new one". Anyone know where I can buy a new XS1100E???
                            P.S. I haven't ridden a late model V-Max yet.

I agree with you on most of this but I don't see the XS11 as unreliable. I like the way some of the new Harleys ride but the power isn’t there and the price is insane.

The new Honda 919F looks interesting but I doubt I could con my way into a test ride. I plan to check out the new Triumphs but I’m really to cheap to buy a new bike so it’s all just speculation.

                                Same bike for a lifetime

I got my 78 E in 1978 as a graduation gift from my parents, which means (for the math challenged) I've been riding the same bike for 26 years. Having owned a cycle shop I could have ridden most anything I wanted to, and did several times. The V-max impressed me a lot but for overall dependability, comfort and all around fun (which is what it is all about) I'll stick with my XS. Yamaha touted this bike as a fifty year motorcycle, I hope to find out. If you look closely at the new sport bikes they all use an engine patterned after ours, with shorter strokes and higher revs, but they still use a straight across 4 cylinder. Only now they are water cooled and fuel injected, but same basic design. When your the best everyone wants to be like you.
Unless you are the lead sled dog the view never changes.
