  • Rider down........

Saturday afternoon my sis-in-law was riding her Harley to a BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) function in San Antonio on I-35. Circumstances are unclear now but apparently traffic had come to a halt and she wasn't exactly watching what was going on. The truck in front of her was at a complete stop. By the the time she snapped everyone was stopped, she has run out of room. Fortuntaly, she decided to lay the bike down instead of rearending the F250. This was a 40+MPH laydown. Right now she is in surgurey having her wrist put back together. Also suffered severe road rash and damaged some fingers pretty bad. She was wearing a helmet which suffered some severe damage. All in all, she is doing well with all injuries fixable and things look promising. Bike suffered mostly cosmetic damages (although, being a Harley, big $$$) and was able to be ridden home. This was her 4th going down incident in 2 years but the only one requiring hospitialtion (all preivious crashes were attributed to "pilot error"). She started riding only a few short years ago and absoultley had to have a Harley as a first bike. Despite my warnings from her friends, me and her husband against choosing such a big bike as a first ride, she would hear none of it. Doing well today but has decided that motorcyles is not really her thing and is going to sell the HD once it is back together. While not exactly comforting, she did tell me that she should have listened to me when I told her to get something a bit manageable as a first bike instead of a 20K HD. Sometimes, wanting that status symbol will bit you in the arse!!!!!

Too bad it took the pain and the expense to change her outlook. Glad she will recover in one piece. That wrist thing is no fun, no matter how good it looks. Hope she has a good orthopedic surgeon. That is the biggest part of that recovery.
        Give her our best wishes.

Best wishes for her swift recovery. Does not matter what ride you have, when someone goes down it is not a good thing to hear about. Hoping she is back up on two wheels very soon.

Like they say, it isn't a matter of "if" but "when." I'm sorry to hear that her's was so hard. Mine was at age 14. I hope I don't have another at age 65, but you just never know. Wishing a speedy recovery.

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                      I've been riding since 1959.

                          Hi Gump,
best you have a whip-round and send friend's wife on a rider's course before she becomes a statistic.
