Yep I'm one of those who live in Toowoomba, Aust.

We copped it really bad yesterday but other places are far worse. There’s something like 9 dead and some 70 people still missing. There is a wall of water heading to Ipswich and Brisbane.

The emergency service had 4500 calls for help yesterday in Toowoomba and 2 towns down at the base of the range have been wiped out.

Freak storms from nowhere in the middle of summer. Toowoomba is 2000ft up a mountain and the last place you would expect to flood. I've been there, and too most of the towns down the valley towards Brisbane, and their problem is usually a lack of water, definately not too much of it. Last time I was in Brisbane there was all sorts of water restrictions in place. Feast or Famine

...and down south they are getting bush fires.... they cant win.

Makes our recent Earthquake look small in comparison.

Don't care what anyone says, sumptin's definately up with our planet. These events are becoming more common place and a lot more severe.

Well, they say at one point all these continents were connected as one big mass of earth. So, perhaps its moving time for some continents again.

Then again, in terms of the earths existence, our history documentation, especially of this type of activity, is but a spec in time. So who is to say what is normal or not.

              Weather

I got a glimpse of it on the news, did not know it was 2000 feet up.
Meanwhile I have been chatting with my Yankee red neck tractor ( I have a 1941 Ford 9N ) buddies. They will be getting another foot or more of snow.
Earlier in a post I did a whine about snow on my drive. But it is snowing here and Yami is the winter transportation. Have 70 miles to ride on Thursday.

All the best to the folks in the crappy weather, Uncle Crusty.

It's horrible whats happening between here to Brisbane.
3/4 of the state is a disaster area. Before all this happened an area the size of New South Wales, was flooded in Queensland, now this.

We had soaking rain on and off for 2 weeks, it's rained for 9 weekends straight, then all of a sudden we have something like 90 mm in an hour.

I live at 550 meters and viewed some good flash floods bushwalking over the years. I have never seen anything like this.

Hard to think we were on Level 5/6 water restrictions for the last 4 years, the 3 dams here slowly filled up to %60 then one day, bingo.

                12 dead, 58 missing

Thanks Ray, but I'm in a different country. I have family and friends in the area though. So far they're safe but things can change rapidly in a situation like that.

Our problem here is an unusually hot summer. (if you can call that a problem) Our midday temps for the last month have routinely been in the 28 to 30 degree C range, which is about 6 to 8 degrees above normal for us this far south. Has made for some great riding weather though, I put 600k's on the bike last weekend, and have another 500 planned for this weekend.

Got off the phone a couple minutes ago and I thought my cousins were in good shape ,over looking the golf course and they had no thought of the waters getting to them but now they have three inches of water in their garage, they have put up a ladder to the second floor if need be and have food and water. They are in Brisbane.
                        Not looking good.

My girlfriend in Darwin has her mother living with her brother in Ipswich.
She rang last night to say that they had to rescue her brother off the roof of his house. Her mum evaced early that day to a friends place.

He was stunned at how fast it rose. He lost a superstock spec race honda, his normal bike, car etc etc.
Her mum lost everything, inc her husbands ashes.

When he last rang, he couldn't even see the house. It was in a new estate near / in the Bremer River.

Terrible and awfull situation there. Didn't your weather/emergency forcasters warn people about the imminent flooding? Any kind of emergency management system there that would mobilize people before disaster strikes?
From all the news videos I've seen I got the sense that people got caught totally unaware that it was coming..... sitting on their hands so to speak!!!
Not a religious man, but I'll keep you in my thoughts and wish you well.

Absolutely stunning videos of the "Inland Tsunami". The speed of the water is beyond belief. Hopefully the warning to the downstream communities will save lives.
