Hey, just got signed in. I recently bought a '79 XS 11, 12-27-10, off cl. I'm from Minnesota, so the bike market is usually full of desperate sellers looking to unload during the winter. After I got it home, I went online to find info and found this site. This is my 2nd street bike I've ever owned. In '84, I bought a '82 Yamaha 550 Maxim, had it until '93 when my first kid was born, then sold it. Now I look forward to putzin' with the '79. I'll probably have some rookie questions in the future, so bear with me. Thanks!!

Welcome to the madness of XS11 ownership!!

It really is all the things you read it is on here, an amazingly durable and incredibly powerful machine. And it goes from the biggest PITA (ok...besides me) to your pride and joy in the single turn of a wrench! If it is the right wrench and turned just so.

They are fun to work on and rewarding when it fixes the issue, cause then you get the smile plastered across your face as you twist the grip and feel the beast try to pull out from under you!!
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.

Welcome aboard! Since you had the 550, you may find several similarities to the XS. Get a manual (free download from the link in my signature) and read EVERYTHING you can find. Read the entire manual, and ALL the tech tips on this site (link at the top of this screen, under "XS11 INFO"). Anything you get stuck on, feel free to ask away. Oh, and we like pictures here!

I rode a 550 maxim for years. Still have it, don't know why. The XS will make the 550 seem like a toy.
