  • Santa came early this year

    and brought me this:

Kind of ironic as the gentleman I bought this bike from, I've been calling Santa for 2 years as I was beginning to doubt his existence. Chatted with him a bit here, but we never could meet up for one reason or another.

While the circumstances for me acquiring this bike were not the best, I hope he takes heart in knowing she has a good home.
I just hope she doesn't mind being around all of the Specials we have...
    lol
At least she won't be lonely.

        Thank you!

Yeah... I'm kinda excited about this one. Never really cared much for the Standards, but when I saw this one... instantly fell in love with her.

Merry Christmas to you too Nate

Very nice bike! Like to get one like it sometime. Not sure I'm ready for a fairing just yet, but the Std is on my radar screen anyway.

I am certain she will feel right at home there!!

Until you've ridden behind a full fairing you just don't know. Some love it, some hate it, but I've known few that were lukewarm about them. I love them, would hate to ride a bike any distance without one, and I love how much less tired I am after a ride behind it. The primary downside for me is that you hear every little noise from the engine. I'm thinking about some insulation on the inside of mine to get rid of the megaphone affect. I was thinking some thin egg crate foam glued in there might do the trick. Other than that I like both the way they look and the way they ride. But of course, I ride a dresser. The only problem with mine is the Vetter kit gives the bike a fat a$$, which makes lane sharing a little harder (being that I live in Ca where it's not illegal (fine point of law, it's not LEGAL to lane split in CA, just not ILLEGAL, which by definition says it's allowed.)).

Hey, I know, I tend to type on, but then I have only ever seen ONE other 11 rider (ok two if you count dragxs11 when he dropped off the frame and engine to me, but that wasn't on a bike) in all this time.

Oh, and yes Kat, that's a nice looking ride. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy mine.

Don't park it by the FJ, you'll never get it running.

So Kat, you FINALLY got a REAL XS1100 for Christmas! The pacifico fairing is the BEST, IMHO. You will probably need two shields for that, a cut down one for the Texas summers, and the one that's on it for the short winters you have.
You WILL notice a little more "kick" from the '78. Enjoy the bike, and maybe I can try and drive up that way the next time I'm in College Station for work!
HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A GREAT NEW YEAR!

Standards stand proud. Hope your "specials" can deal with it.

Nice of Santa to bring you that. Don't worry about the bikes getting along. I have a E, SF, MNS and a XJ...they get along just fine. The only problem is which to ride on which day. I never had a fairng until I got the E and I love it enough that I bought one for the SF. Of course we have cooler weather here so it only gets really hot behind the fairing on hot days and longer rides. Now if Santa just had some side covers eh! I just happen to know where there is an extra pair not perfect but not terrible shape. Merry Christmas!

and FYI... it's not going any where NEAR the FJ

At least this one doesn't feel so Special that she has to stop every 100 miles.

That's assuming I keep the fairing on there... I MUCH prefer to ride nekkid.

I'm running a 78 engine in my 81... will be interesting to compare the 2 of them.

There actually are some sidecovers with this bike. They were in one of the bags. Other than the left side having the missing lock tab, pretty good condition. But I'm not one to knock the possibility of another set... just in case.

Thank you! Merry Christmas to you as well!

Nice, Kat. I started out on the specials too. When I got my first standard I found out they are not the same as the specials. They roll down the road just a little better. Then I spent most of my time making it look like a special.. I'd be willing to bet you'll have that one picked down by spring.
