  • My Midnight Experiance

When I turned 18 1979 summer, I got 60k for my fathers untimely death. I went to the Yamaha shop in Dalton GA. A motorcycle had a sign that read "If you value your life as much as we value this motorcyle you will not sit" MGR. I asked about payment and was rebuked by the son of the owner as being too young and he was going to buy that motorcycle. I persisted and was greated by his mother who promplty priced the motorcyle at 4474 taxes included. "I'll be back" I said. Just out of high school and on summer break I managed 10000 miles and in 4 years had 74000 on it mother's day and wrecked it in the rain on interstate 24 west of Chattanooga.

I rebuilt the motorcyle and rode it for 2-3 years with no odometer. Replaced the odometer and kept the motorcyle till 1991 and sold it for 400 dollars with the odometer showing 50,000 miles. The last 3 years I never changed the oil becuase I had to take my Kerker header off to do it.

So in my best estimation I put my miles somewhere around 150,000-170,000 on this motorcyle that was "worth a man's life".

In 1999 I saw a guy riding a midnight in town and bought it from him after about 6-12 months of pestering.

Wrecked it one year later doing a wheely and it's totaled in my garage.

Bought a woodshed 1980 special thinking I'd make 2 into 1. I'm lazy and it never happened.

Bought another 1980 Midnight in June this year and have put 4000 on it. The odometer shows 25700 miles now. I know how far it will go and I'm satisfied if I never drive another type street bike in my whole life.

      Crash Sounds Great!

Don't forget though I'm still alive on a bike worth a man's life. Crash is a great name and I'm honored.

          Would love to know

If anyone alive has ever done that many miles on theyre motorbike. 100,000 plus we'll call it.

If I wasnt married and working and coaching youth football Id have about 10000 on this mother already.
