  • Boston Christmas Tree

Around this time each year the city of Halifax Nova Scotia sends a giant fir tree to Boston MA. To commerate the assitance sent after the Halifax Explosion.
On the 6th of December 1917 two ships collided in Halifax Harbour. One was carrying amunition for the war in Europe. The resulting explosion destroyed 1600 homes and killed 2000 people. The largest manmade explosion up to that time.
Two hospital trains were sent the next day from Boston with Doctors ,Nurses and medical supplies.

    Any XSives in Boston?

Actually, it still is the largest man-made, non-atomic explosion. This explosion was studied during the Manhattan project which helped to decide how to explode the first atomic bomb.

I thought that the later explosion in Texas (galveston I believe) was larger, although that might have been because it was multiple explosions over time rather than one single explosion.
