• Does this look like a Virago?

I drove an 82 Virago but I don't ever remember a virago looking like this..

Maybe I was asleep that year?

Hi latexeses,
yeah, that's the 920cc chain drive Virago. Yamaha made so many improvements to that version that it didn't sell at all well.

I loved that 82 model. I thought that shaft drive was the greatest thing since sliced cheese. Great in the hills. My only gripe was that digital dash. Went bad and NO ONE could figure out the reason.

I'd still be riding it if it weren't for that.

This thing has a totaly different look. No bad, just different.

Euro model

The 920 Euro Model. One of my favorite Yamaha bikes of all time, rode one once but never managed to own one. The poor man's Vincent. Great bike. Big tank, fully enclosed chain drive, great handling and comfortable riding position.
Shiny side up,
650 Mike

XS1100SF "Rusty", runs great, 96k miles
XS650SJ "The Black Bike", engine from XS650H with 750cc big bore kit, 30k miles

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well preserved piece, but to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out and defiantly shouting, "WOW, what a ride !" - Sprung
