  • Redid the Grab bar badge

I recently purchased a Grab bar badge for my XJ 1100 from Yamahansolo.
badge was in great shape. unfortunately it has a chrome finish on it and the rest of my badges have a gold finish. So here is what i did.

Sanded the surface with some 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper.

I then put 2 coats of Testors gold model paint.

Then i sprayed it with 3 coats of Testors laquer.

i think it turned out pretty good.

I was to late to edit the other post i made. For some reason i can't copy the img link from photobucket,it kept posting an old link from a game.

You might want to use some automotive type clear over that, as the model paint won't hold up to weather, washing, etc as well.

    Looks good though...

The badge actually sits in a recess on the back of the sissy bar. I don't think it will get wet there.

A bike gets wet everywhere, even under the seat, unless it is never in the water.

Actually, I did the exact same thign to my side cover and tank badges when I first got Thunderstruck a couple years ago. PO had blacked them out.

I used Testor model paint to paint them back to gold and I used Duplicolor clear from the rattlecan at autozone. Which I now believe is not any better than the stuff Testor makes.

Badges all looked great, right up until the fatefull day anyway.

I'll try some of the auto clear to see if that helps. Nothing is going back together until spring now. Bike is parked for the winter and i am just collecting parts now.
