After five months I finaly got the xs to fire up. After setting the timming wrong twice (and bending valves ) I finaly got her running...very rough but running. Still have a mager leak in the carbs (stuck float) and front tire baunces badly at 35 mph. I think one of the rotors is warped, but I will take the wheel off and check the balance to make sure. Still lots to do but I'm no longer discuraged.

The balance is probably the issue, but check for roundness also. I bought a tire, and took a trip to TX before I determined that the tire was out of round! Jack up the front of the bike and look over the surface of the tire as you slowly spin it (assuming the brakes don't drag).1980 XS850SG - Sold
