    Boots on Bikes

Sometimes I ride to a location, and I want to dress up just a little bit, so I wear my Larry Mahan boots. The problem is that the shifter lever screws up the top of my boot. I tried the old sock over the boot trick, but the sock sometimes blew off, even tried a sock or piece of cloth with rubber bands holding it on. When I made a few stops, the rubber bands wore through and the sock/cloth fell off. Got any suggestions??

Just a thought, make something out of velcro? Might be something like a strap of velcro to hold a pad on top of your boot. When you get where you are going, take it off and stick it in your helmet for when you leave.

There are tons of options for this, marketed to the crotch rocket riders. Maybe something on the shift peg, instead of on the shoe? The funny thing is, I wear my polished dress shoes (I know, not the safest idea) and ride to work every day (and home for lunch and back) and have NEVER received a mark on my shoes from the shift lever.

          Hi Jack,
real men are proud of their scuff marks.
If someone remarks on them, say your old lady made them to spoil the boot's polish to stop you looking at reflections of ladies underwear.

Or get a heel shifter, more usual with boards but can be used with pegs too.

I wear army boots so what do I know?
If I am going to a business meeting I might change foot wear.

My biggest problem with my boots was that the heels kept wearing out... They just don't make 4" heels durable enough for riding.

My Ole Lady is one step ahead of you, Fred, she made me take off the inspection mirrors I taped to my boots. She didn't believe I was looking for oil leaks, especially in Walmart. Seriously, I will try out some of the suggestions given here. Thanks!

I was in Cycle Gear awhile back, and they were selling little bootie things that go over the shift lever. They were just small stretchy soft thingy's. Looked kinda like a neck warmer for a piss ant.

Here's a nice post on a toe-heel shifter for the XS11 using a Honda trail 90 shifter. It looks pretty cool.

I used a piece of neoprene from a old water bottle cover. Stitched it in to a tube and then stretched it over the shift lever. It stays in place, and when it wears out i just make another one.
