  • Broken camera

Anyone have experience with working on cameras. My wife took a fall in Vegas, and now the lens won't come out all the way. It has slipped out of it's track or something. I cannot find a breakdown or repair sheet on this. It is not worth what the shops want to repair it, but it is a good camera.

What kind of camera is it? I've had a couple break that way, and have generally found that the parts needed to fix them (when this happens its generally because gears have stripped or broken) exceeds the cost of replacement, even before figuring in my time working with very tiny parts. In many cases you can get a good replacement off ebay cheaper than the parts.

I have to agree. There are a lot of small parts (most likely plastic) that can break in there. In most cases you are best off finding a replacement and cutting your losses.

        It's already broke, try it!

I had one that got tweaked like that, the lens actually got positioned crooked, and hung up. I grabbed the lens with my fingers, pulled and was able to get it to pop back into position, and then the gears worked just fine to extend and retract it.

So...I suggest, just turning it on, see if it will extend a bit to where you can get a grip on it and then pull on the lens to see if you can get it to slip/skip past the nylon gear teeth to the full extension position, and then see if it will retract when powered down, extend fully when powered back up!?

If not, then as has been stated, it's TRASH, no harm no foul, toss it, and get a new one.
