  • Almost October and ...

It's almost October and I must say that this has been the WETTEST September that I can remember.
Weather man is calling for RAIN every day from here to the end of the month.
How has the weather been in your neck of the woods?

You all up north are getting it bad and we are finally getting some summer-like weather hear on the NorCal coast. Maybe we'll get our Indian Summer after all. I wont be holding my breath, though.

Ha, you think you got it bad, September is the start of spring for me. Woke up Saturday week ago to go to a rally and there was 4 inches of snow on the ground, unheard of for here at sea level.(went back to bed) Just come through 8 days of the worst storm we've had for years. Many buildings have lost their roof, including our local indoor sports centre (collapsed under the weight of the snow), farmers are right in the middle of lambing season and so far the losses are hitting the million mark. (Thats a huge hit on our local economy that will be felt for the next couple of years). I had to go to Dunedin yesterday (140 miles) and decided to ride the XJR since the weather was improving. Rode into a shower just out of town and it kept up with me all the way to Balclutha. The first 90 miles riding in a downpour was fun, not. Great day today, but I had to work, and the forecast for the rest of the week is rain and hail. I'd rather have winter if this is the spring alternative.

I don't want to think about SNOW just yet. This morning we are under a weather watch / heavy rainfall warning. We are to expect 50 mm or more in the next 24 hours.

Yu, we have a very short summer here... Snow finally all melted by early May, and this snow fall last week will probably mean winter until next may... Fall has long past us.... Tinkerin time on the XJ

Funny, here in the midwest it is about like desert land. We have had almost no rain to speak of for a looong time. It has also been VERY hot, 90 degrees in September is extremely warm for Ohio. But now it is supposed to rain today with a high of 65. One thing about SW Ohio, if you don't like the weather, just wait an hour or two, it'll change!!

We've had really nice weather here lately. A little rain, but usually only at night or just a drizzle during the day. So far, I have not been forced off the bike due to weather in months! The temps just dropped this last weekend to the point that I got my winter jacket out (no liner yet) and installed the fairing lowers, but fall is just barely getting started here. It usually really gets going (leaves actually falling off the trees) right around the 3rd week of November.

                      October and no rain

Here in Brazil, Indiana that is, we haven't had enough rain to make the grass grow. Haven't mowed the grass in three or four weeks, lol. We live along the I-70, actually just north about 4 miles. The temperture is just about right for ridding, thats what the better half says, but I'm waiting for rear m/c part diaphragm reservior from my local dealer, should be here this week. Not sure how to post a need, but I would like to find a double bucket touring seat for my xj1100 maxim and some vetter bags with the brackets. Don't have room to carry anything and the stock seat isn't very comfy. Ride safe fellows and watch the other drivers. Don

                        Summer?..what summer?

Ha. Our spring was wet and windy, and I think I must have missed summer; my corn still isn't ripe, and many of my garden crops didn't do well because of the weather. Oh, and the Oyster Run was a "bit damp", with low overcast and drizzle. I couldn't see 100 ft. ahead of me at times, on the trip to there. I hear there was a big wreck on hiway 20 going out of town (Anacortes), with more than one biker asking me if there was an alternate route out. On the way home (Coupeville), I had to cross Deception Pass, and there had been a wreck on the bridge there, taking out about 75 ft. of guardpost and cable. All of this in "The rain shadow of the Olympic Mountains". Most people here are looking for natural predictors for winter forcasts; geese flying south early, more spiders and spiderwebs flying through the sky, yellow jackets tunneling in early, and horses growing thick and long hair already. Hmmm.m.. causes me to wonder. O'well, got new tires (Metzeler 880's), and new brakes on my 80' Special. Just got a log load of firewood for the woodstove, so....let'er rip!

                            Just the beginning

Not to spoil anyone's day/year, but this is the early signs of global warming. Here in SOCAL we had a very mild summer with only a few days needing the AC and other areas had other than normal summer too, except most was too much rain or not enough or way too hot/cold, etc. I'm afraid that the scientists have much to learn and that we have already gone to far for our ability to correct the problem....
