Hey folks. I just picked up a XS1100, title says 1980 but I'm not sure. I'll look at the VIN number and perhaps the steering column for build date. Its got an all vinyl seat - without a "fastback" plastic tail piece, and the YAMAHA badge is adhered to the back of the seat vinyl (I think its a metal plate). It's the standard version, not the Special or Cruiser version. Does that suggest a particular year/model?
The bike has been professionally repainted metallic green (basecoat-clearcoat). All of the chrome is decent. New tires and I happened to have a battery that fit, fully charged, on the shelf!
It's got just under 25k on the odometer and is very clean. it only runs on full choke. It fires up but then I can't rev it or it dies. Carbs probably have never been off the bike and I'm going in to clean the jets tonight. Hopefully I'll be riding it by tomorrow morning.
I'm pretty excited about this bike particularly because I (stupidly) sold my daily rider out at Mid-Ohio this year (1971 CB500-4) and got home and realized everything else I own either has no title or is a non-runner. Too many projects and not enough time/money. I have about 20 bikes. Well, maybe 21, now.
If I get it running well tonight I'll probably go to the DMV tomorrow and register it, transfer the "vintage" plates to it from the 500-4, call the insurance company, and ride to work.
Thanks for letting me introduce myself.
