  • New to the site!

    Hey everyone!

I just picked up a 1979 XS1100, and in the course of my research, I ran across this site! I had a really good experience with the Willy's Wagon and Truck forum, so I thought I'd join up and see what kind of learnin' there is to be had around here!

Haven't gotten the bike to run for more then a few moments yet, but I'm hoping it doesn't cause me to start crying uncontrollably or give me nightmares like my XS650 has been doing since I bought it! (Although I probably brought most of that on myself anyhow.)

Looking forward to talking to you guys!
    Joab

Welcome...I think I saw where you were already asking away. Good stuff!! I always say, I'd much rather learn from someone elses mistakes than my own!!!

            Welcome Joab,
You've come to the right place. Everyone is willing to help via the site and even in person if you're close to them. That has been my experience and made a couple of new friends as a result.
Good luck and don't give up. Once you get it dialed in, it's not hard to keep it that way.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I finally got to get it down the road for a few miles, I think I'm really going to enjoy this one!...and I need to install the fairing I bought..the last couple miles was a straight downpour...

As I mentioned in another post, you guys are breaking my brain on a daily basis, keep up the good work! I'm learning more and more about these mean machines everyday!

                Hey there Joab,

Welcome, congrats on your new acquisition, and that it's running!

You may want to hold off on the fairing installation until you get all of the mech work done first, will allow easier access to vital areas of the engine and frame! Also, you'll want to do a lot of troubleshooting/preventative electrical work so that you know that's okay first, before doing the fairing wiring, so that if you encounter troubles there, you can almost be assured it's the fairing causing it!

BTW, lots of folks here have experience with the 650 as well...was yours an XS650 twin, or an XJ650 4 cyl??

I forgot to look before starting to post, but you'll want to edit your signature to include your year/make, certain aspects are model/year specific and our info to you will depend on that info.

                  TC,
I see he DID add the bikes to his signature. The 650 is an XS-1B from the year, twin cyl. red and white colors..... DAMHIKIJK That's the bike I rode from California to North Carolina when I was in the Army back in '74. Good bikes, but they need the '73 tank for the extra gallon of fuel, IMHO.
Welcome to the site, Joab! Post if you have any questions, as we all have answers AND they help now and then!
