  • Vetter's Magic Seat Board

I just thought I'd mention a new update on Craig Vetter's site. He unveiled an old invention (created in the 70's, but never released to the public) to the Iron Butt Convention last week that is so simple, it's unbelievable. Evidently, you take a piece of 1/2" plywood, and cut it into the shape of one of those travel neck pillows. It sits on your seat, and supports your thighs. The weight that would usually be hurting the bones of your butt is now being supported by your thighs! It needs to be deployed and un-deployed while moving, since you can't put your feet down with the board under your thighs, but for those 2-hour-long stretches across no-mans-land, it might be just the ticket!

Here's my web page devoted to my bike! XS/XJ User's Manuals there, and the XJ1100 Service Manual and both XS1100 Service manuals (free download!).

    Hmmmmm

It needs to be deployed and un-deployed while moving,
Don't like that but I think I have a way around. Gonna think on it a bit.

If your seat is designed right you should already be supporting your weight with your thighs instead of your butt. That's why most factory cruiser seats are so uncomfortable, all the weight is on your butt and tail bone.

Totally hats off to Craig Vetter. I certainly know the pain and discomfort . It may not be the ideal way to solve that but its better than anything Ive seen. And all shared for free....Piece of plywood or hundred buck gel pad that helps somewhat?

          Hi 'Bug,
thanks for the link, I got me a slab of plywood to cut a thighboard out of and us sidecar guys don't need to put our feet down so we ain't bothered by the need to install or remove the board while moving.
