I decided to prove it, so I put my camera in there in video mode with it running and closed the door. The light went out, and came back on when opened. So at least while observed it does go out. At least on MY fridge.

Yeah, the light goes out. I got in one time to see. Was kind of cramped because of all the bird seed.

6 months without electricity?? They let you do that there?? I can't imagine even a week without power! Here, you are not allowed (by law) to go without utility services. People have died because they stopped paying gas or electric bills, and the temps got too high/low in the house. Our city has an ordinance that even requires us to have trash service, and that it is illegal to transport trash in your personal vehicle!

They have most of that here as well, but not the illegal to transport trash in your POV, you must have trash service, but if you have extra you can pay to take it to the dump in your car or pickup truck. They used to have curbside pickup once a year for getting rid of bigger stuff (actually it used to be twice a year, then once) but they got rid of it because of the budget crisis (too dumb to stop spending more than they take in, and if revenues go up at all, they allocate every bit, plus plan for more the next year).

Interesting, here if they turn it off, they have to turn it on the next business day if you get it paid, not counting weekends of course.

We don't have a limit on what we can put out at the curb on trash day. Couches, mattresses, water heaters, etc, are all fine. You can put out as many misc. cans of trash as you want, as long as there are lids on them. Same goes for yard waste, except they won't take large tree limbs unless you cut them up and put them in a trash can (with a lid). I just put my old gas clothes dryer out last week and it was gone the next morning - of course, it may have been taken by a scrap-hunter for all I know.
