    Greetings and salutations
riddle me this, was there ever a time that the XS11 used tubes with mag wheels? I ask because I have an SR500E that, when the wheels were broken down for new tires, was found to have tubes. the tires were original. I am hearing that early mags had a different profile. Was this true of the XS11's also?

78 Standards and early 79 Standards had tube type rims. All the other XS11 models had rims stamped \"suitable for tubless\' stamped on them. AFAIK the rim profiles are all the same.

Do you know why they needed tubes on the early ones?

Tubless tires were new on the motorcycle market and just becoming popular on bikes then.

The '78E and some of the '79s used tubes and rim locks to keep the valve stems from tearing out under acceleration and braking.
