I have an 82XJ in the garage here for a first gear fix. It's now done and I took it for a short ride to test. WOW, this is the fastest 1100 I have ever ridden. Before that it was an XS belonging to the Whiz. This thing is so quick it's hard to keep the front wheel on the road when hard excellerating in first. I thought mine was fast, but this thing is truly a rocket.

Is that XJ naked, Dick? Sometimes it just feels faster when all the air is blowing in you face maybe. I have been glad for my little Rifle quarter fairing which lets most of the air blow on me since comming to Carolina.
Tell ya' what though, yesterday Ben was over here and we rode up in the mountains and on the Parkway where it was very cool but he was hatin that Windjammer down lower as it was gawd-awful hot in the foothills.80G Mini-bagger

Naked
Yeah, it's naked, but I didn't go far or fast enough for that to mean much. Just hammered it hard in first and second to check the fix I did. Seemed to get to 60 MPH in about 2 seconds and in first gear the front wheel was so light on the ground it was only touching now and then. The thing isn't registered yet and the AZ plates say it was registered last in '08 so long rides aren't yet a good idea. The owner rode it here from AZ like that.You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...

Dats right my freaking windjammer shield is a barn door...but I used it anyways 'cuz you'll get blasted by the heat...although its got lousy airflow...just gotta stay in the mtns where it was just nice and cooooool

We drove through parts of NC a couple years ago, on our way to Raleigh, and final destination of Gastonia. I liked it a lot. Took a trip to the mountains, and loved it. Probably won't get back there again for awhile, and then without the bike.1980 XS1100LG Midnight

Other differances
The XJ also has a smaller diameter rear wheel and it doesn't have the 750 final either. Both would make more git-up-n-go. The speedo is one of these 80 mph things so I couldn't see how fast it goes anyway.You can't stay young forever, but you can be immature for the rest of your life...
