Any tube geeks out there?

Other than unclespot, who I know is a tube PRO, not a geek like me, I wonder how many of us are into vintage electronics? I have an ulterior motive for asking. I've been trying to get a Dynaco ST-70 for a few weeks and I've been outbid so many times it's getting tiring. Nothing is more frustrating than those ebay dopes that start bidding items up days before they close. Don't they get it? Don't they realize they're just raising the price against themselves? Rant over. Then the idea hit me that on the remote chance a member here has one they'd like to sell, I'd rather just pay him (her) instead.

Anyone here got one of these they want to sell?

My first though on reading that thread title is that it belonged in the m4m section of craigslist.

But once I saw what it was, I completely nderstand why you'd want one. the old tube amps were something to behold.

Not only that but the sound they created was superior in resonance to anything that was transistor-ized...IIRC these amplifiers were a kit that you built...Anyone remember going to the drug store and testing your tubes in those testers...This stuff is increasingly harder to find with each passing day. So it must be damn near impossible to find replacement tubes when they go bad.

there used to be an old tube amp in highschool. The sound on the geeter was amazing. Well, back when I could play. I havent made my fingers bleed for about 15 years. I'd still love to get my hands on a good hollow body and tube amp. Might make me feel like pissing off the neighbors with something other than a MAC exhaust.

No, they're back in popularity (at much higher prices) and the tubes can now be gotten again. There's been numerous re-issues (including, I think, some of the Dynaco stuff) of 'vintage' tube stuff as well as new models.

I saw a pair of Mac 3500's on EBay recently for a mere $14K....

OK, now we're cookin'

I've got a bunch of old radios, been a hobby of mine since I was kid. Recently had an opportunity to pick up a pair of AR-4's and they sound SWEEEET on my Sansui 7070. Incredible sound out of those little boxes. My vinyl copy of "Who's Next" hasn't sounded this good since the '70's. CD's just don't cut it when compaired to vinyl.

Then had another opportunity to get a pair of Dynaco 25's to use as a 'rear' pair. Now I got this train rollin' so fast I can't stop myself and I NEEEED that ST-70.

Did someone say Dynaco? I got a few besides these I had a pair of un-molested Mk VI's. They don't sound like the vintage stuff but they are pretty decent for what they are. The CDV2's are CD players that use the 6922/6DJ8's tubes in the output section. CD's never sounded better.



Some of the solid state stuff Panor Dynaco put out. The DVD player, Preamp/Tuner, and a ST-400 with one of 3 pair of Electro Voice Aristocrats I have.







The build quality on these are pretty good.

Don't know diddidly about tubes (bad hearing) but I may be able to help as to where you could find some. Dallas. There is a swap (or sale) meet here called First Saturday mostly for computers and electronics. I used to make it a regular run 15 years ago. It is still going strong. There is a sizeable group that deals in the older stuff. We have people come in from all over. This may well be the biggest swap meet in the USA. Used to have an old Sansui tube type amp it was bad ass!

It took like 30 or 45 seconds to warm up bu it would go ....bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....BOOM!

This particular amp I got from Frank Gow who is Gordon Gow's son. Gordon Gow is one of the original designers of the McIntosh amps.

Ahhh...finally

Picking it up today. Has a new matched quad of Svetlana EL34's, new caps throughout and the selenium rectifier mod. I hope it sounds as good as it looks
