A couple of folks have written me tonight after receiving what looks like a note directly from me with the subject line "Re: [xs11] Fw:xs11,how are you". I'm pretty certain this has nothing to do with my computer, but it does look like it may have something to do with being one of the administrators at our yahoogroups.com service. Each of the notes looks like it was sent back to xs11-owner@yahoogroups.com yet addressed to me. wish I understood more about this....

E-mail problems - virus?

Ken,
My in box has been flooded lately with the same sort of trash, about 15 to 20 virus infected e-mails a day, this just started about 2 days ago. I think they are using the emails on yahoo. I actually had one comeback from somebody who was out of the office....this means the mail looked like it came from me. I got the one from you as well and just figured you were fighting the same problem I was, although yours did not have the virus attached. I hope they get sick of sending them soon, my ISP deletes the attachments anyway if it is a known virus and my Norton AV takes care of any others. Mine have the following subjucts 'Your details' 'Re:Your details' 'Re:Re:Your details' 'Wicked Screensaver' etc.Gary Granger

I rec'd one from you as well; in the message properties, it listed the yahoo info. I know you post here, and use the pm here, so I deleted it. I run weekly updated Norton and it didn't say anything. I also have it set to delete attachments, no burps'81 XS11 Midnight Special

I bought a copy of Norton in 95 when I picked up the "new" windows software. Worked pretty well but i don't like running a virus scanner because it slows my PC down too much.
I considered purchasing another copy of Norton for XP but I see now that they are subscription based where you have to pay them every year to keep it updated. I prefer not to be Nortons tit so I found a FREE alternative. free Online virus scanner
I ran this and it found a copy of blaster on my PC and deleted it off immediatley. Fortunatley I did this before it had a chance to run.79 XS1100F "JINGUS"

Do you want it done right or do you want me to do it?

AVG Antivirus comes in a free version for home users, it plays a lot better with windows than Norton or especially mcafee:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php
Did I mention it's free for home users?
Here's a direct link to their download page, note that you need to use a real email address as they send you an unlock code:

These worms / virii spoof return email addresses. Someone who is infected sends email out with the return addresses of others in their address book. I get warnings from major ISP's like MSN and Earthlink that I have sent an email that had a virus attached. I know I did not, my email address was used by another computer that is infected. I just delete them.
AVG is good protection. Free and easy to use. I use both it and Symantec. Just remember to keep the definitions updated.Marty in NW PA

Panda antivirus works great on slower PC-s... doesnt use a lot of resources, but its not quite free... you still have to steal it. Get titanium.
If you want to buy it, its not that expencive.
LPIf it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

I found the fix for the 'So Big.F' worm, but it would not run on my machine. Supposedly it quits on Sept. 10 anyway.

viruses got me
Had 3 viruses in my computer, Bugbear, trojan, and another called "Dumaru". I lost some of my exe. files and couldnt go on line. After spending $250. to right what was wrong and getting 64 megs more of ram plus Norton 2003 added, all seems well, for now.
Hey, I made a solo run to a huge rallie on Prince Edward Isle., there were around 474 bikers attending, saw one other 78XS11, lots of wings, HDs, the usual V-twin cruiser collection.....
The return trip from PEI was a nite run of about 200 miles, went without incident, the bike ran well and no breakdowns...a large sport bike passed me, could see it was red and doing about 90 MPH, think it was maybe a 1300 at least, I followed him for a while but he kept the fast pace and I slowed back to 65 or so.....the engine vibrates a bit to much at those hi-speeds for me and I did'nt want to blow-up the motor.
