    No Excuses by Kyle Maynard

Not necessarily the best written, but had an effect on me. Very inspirational story of a man born without complete arms and legs overcoming challenges to compete at the State level in high school wrestling. Read it and then try and make up an excuse for not doing something....it will make you think!

      Hi psyco,
yeah, Dune itself was great but the subsequent books were just pot-boilers.
And the movie? It is to laugh. And mis-cast. Sting should have played Paul while Kyle McLachlan's pouty spoiled good looks would have made a perfect Faid.

Anything by Stephen King. Imagine being his kid, and NOT wanting him to tell you a bedtime story. And a book called Watership Down that is some animals mimicing (sp?) human life, sort of George Orwell The Farm style. Was in the library, and the title caught my eye, and read it cover to cover in one day.

              The Bible of course,

and A Proud America The autobiography of Joe Foss. Then it get harder as a lot of my favorites are history in several volumes. Fred might like the 6 vol. set of World War II by Winston Churchill. Page Smith did a History of America, in 5 vols covering 1750 to 1870's. Also to explain the Japanese viewpoint in World War II try The 2 vol set of The Rising Sun by John Toland. Next is Fiction, I have 5 Vol's of Calvin and Hobbes and 6 vols of The Far Side.
Last and not the least is Sports Illustrated Tribute of Brett Favre. That had to be a given, as I was born and raised in Wisconsin.

                The Bible, first

Then just about anything by H. Rider Haggard. King Solomons Mines, Alan Quatermain series. Loaded with action and none of the vulgarity of the modern authors.

I forgot about this one; a treasured set in my bookcase...

As to most books made into movies, they either come out so badly as to almost spoil the book for you (the usual case), or once in a blue moon they get it right (Catch 22).

Several mentioned on my favorites list...

Dune (first book), Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance, W.E.B. Griffin's The Brotherhood of War series, and The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever.

And I liked the book First Blood before they messed it up as Rambo I thru VIII.

These are very good! Stephen Hunter ( Bob Lee Swagger ) books are good entertainment, last one wasnt as good. Ayn Rand is good for heavier reading.
