possibly a side effect of the HBT being deleted. someone more in the know on the forum software will likely chime in soon with the actual cause.

-1982 XJ1100J - brought back from the dead by
replacing motor after throwing #4 rod
-1985 XJ750XN - shim job, oil change, ride. not bad for
    $500 including new rear tire.

Mr. Johnson, you are quite correct.

If'in I 'member correctly, there's about two or three more pages to be sorted out and deleted... so post counts might drop just a little more.

This issue was addressed by the moderators when debating what to do about the "Hot Button Forum". Delete threads, post counts go down. Can't be helped.

GURUs often get PM's from new members requesting help or answers to technical questions. Imagine the embarrassment if one had to reply,

"Oh, I'm sorry I can't help you. I don't really know much about these bikes, but if you have any questions about Pelosi, Global Warming or Obama's Socialism, I'd be glad to give you my opinion."

I'm sure that if one would sit back and reflect for a moment on what the original intent of GURU status meant, one would agree that this is a good thing.

I concur 100%. I'm beyond post counting anyways. Prom likewise my sentiments on seeing you here although the banter has changed significantly...

PROM!! Awesome to see you back in the active here!

You know, I recall a couple Guru levels being reached and the discussion of how the individual would not be halfway there without HBT. Now the truth will be told.

              Hmmmm

That's ridiculous, even petty but I personally could not care less. ALL non XS informational posts should be deleted in that case. That would include everything except the XS1100 forum. Many posts within the HBT thread were bike related even though they may have been hijacked. Locking the forum but still allowing access would have been far better (IMHO) as then the hyperbole and speculation about what is acceptable would have ended. Guru status??? “SNORT”, It takes WAY MORE than post numbers to make someone a GURU.

As for myself this site is great and as many have said you can't please all the people all the time. I have asked and gotten good answers from good people but I had also torn my bike totally down and had it running before I even knew this existed. Many people were totally lost without this site. So even if it had not helped me (which it defiantly has) it would still be a great site.

OBTW- not stepping on anyones toes but I have seen numerous instances of conflicting bike related oponions between "gurus". In addition to that I have also seen bad info (items directly in contradiction to my profession) from resident gurus.

To clarify my post, I do agree completely that the little title under the name means crapola about what someone does or does not know about these machines. There are some folks who have over 2k post and have never cracked the cases like me. Some that have never pulled the valve cover off. And others with 3 post that know more than I ever hope to. I did not intend to suggest eliminating HBT post count would change anyones knowledge.

And yes Big John, prior to HBT, we called it "Fluffing" your way up the post count.

                  this is too funny,
this could become a htb topic all on its own.

"Guru" status in my case would simply mean that I am too yappy. Not like people really need to turn to me for advice.

Sure, I've been deep into my bike but you sure want to follow my lead from back then...I was on here several times a day to get "guidance" from those who actually know what the heck they are doing.

                      Sorry,

I really can't get serious about post count. I enjoy chatting and sharing info and ideas/opinions. I agree that the post count has no relationship whatsoever as to how much a person knows about these bikes. There are some on here with fewer posts than I that most likely have forgotten more than I will ever know about XS's. I would like to see everyone rise above the BS and not take things so personal.

BTW- I HATE office politics and pettyness. It is so unflattering to the good members here.

I kind of suspected that was the case, just wanted some confirmation that was the case and not some sort of web weirdness or hacker. I haven't taken as big a hit as some people and it really doesn't matter in any case...
