Welcome aboard! That left side cover seems to be one of the most difficult items to replace. A lot of folks just pull on it and end up breaking the locking tab off in the lock, then the cover flies off on the highway! I know mine did! If you can find one with a broken tab, they are repairable though.

Be sure to post some pictures of your ride! We like pictures!
      1980 XS850SG - Sold

            Thanks all !!

Catatonicbug, I'd post a couple of pics but I don't know how. HTML is disabled and I don't think I CAN post pics. CrazySteve.....I couldn't agree more although the Midnight Specials are one of the prettiest? bikes ever made by any manufacturer!!!! I have been out a few times on the highway and I still don't know where the end of the throttle is. Major problem is my half-helmet. Once I get out of 3rd @ sub-warp speed, my helmet blows down the back of my neck and strangles me. Windshield is the next acquisition but it rides like a dream on the new Avon Vipers.

              Hi lizard and welcome,
nah, not unique at all, the countryside must be littered with sidecovers that have fallen off over the years.
And who'da thought the Yamamorons would use the ignition key to lock the leftside cover on?
I was lucky to find the keyhole before I ripped my left sidecover off and bust the latch.
With me, the right sidecover was missing; their knobby things don't work too well neither.
But replacement sidecovers can be found.
Which brings us back to Osoyoos. I didn't know about the free beer but it is also the home base for Andreas Weiss, list member and supplier of used XS & XJ 11 parts.

                Hi again lizard,
the site won't accept photos direct from your computer.
You gotta post photos to a public site, I use photobucket but there are many others.
Then you include the link from the public site photo in the text.

Here's a thread on how to post pictures. I have to agree with you on the MNS opinion!

If your helmet blows back, you need a new helmet! That should NOT be possible! Lots of options on windshields. For a good-sized one, look for Plexistar options. Generally around $120. Or you could go with a full fairing. There are a few smaller ones available too.
