  • had to race him

I was on Briggsmore Ave two nights ago. This road has a canal down the middle so there is no oncomming traffic. There is also no side streets eccept at the major intersections (1/2 mile apart).
I'm sitting at the light when this F-n-F (Fast and the Furious) little car with a giant wing, neon lights, and loud exhaust pulls up next to me. They're revving the engine and jerking in anticipation of the light changing....they want to race. Light turns green, their tires (front) spin as he dumps the clutch. He chirps the tires as he grabs 2nd and 3rd.... I wasn't goint to race him, I took off as I normally do. As we get alongside each other the passenger is thumping the driver and shouting "YOU GOT HIM DUDE!!!". I'm sorry, I HAD to do it. I didn't even downshift, I rolled on the throttle (I was in 3rd gear) and made sure not to go over 6,000 RPM (I needed some challenge). I walked away from them like they were in a 2nd gear reverse. At the next light they pulled alongside, eyes forward, engine idling. I wish they would have said anything, I'd love to tell them they were blown-away by a 25 year old bike.
I don't endorse street racing but sometimes a statement needs to be made.

    Sometimes!

Sometimes the younger generation needs to be taught a lesson. I hoped they learned they were not as "bad" as they thought. A man about my age (45) pulled up to the stop light next to me in his sport black convertible with idea of showing me his tail lights to where the lanes merge. I deflated his ego badly. The 11 Special never ceases to amaze me.

      There are faster bikes.
Heck, most of the stuff made today flat walks away from my XS11.
But it is still faster than any Mustang, Honda, Camaro you can get in this country.
Sure, most folks know that the newest plastic, barf graphic Yamazukisaki is fast, but who would expect to get their ass handed to them by something that may actually be older than them?
There is nothing quite like the sound of a nice litre bike having the coal shoveled into it.

I handed some kids in a hopped up Acura their hats just the other night.

I often do the same in my ratty old Z car but I usually back off at the speed limit but by then I'm more than a few car lengths ahead. It's not even a challenge on a bike like the XS11 but like you said, sometimes you have to...

It is a guilty pleasure to deflate the ego of someone who's got attitude that they're fast, especially when they don't see it coming.

              Ah, the Z.
It seems that the people in here all have the same kind of toys.
In the garage next to the bike sits a '74 260 with a 280Z motor, 240 carbs, a ZX 5 speed and rear end.
For the money, there are very few cars that can handle as well, or are as much fun to drive. It is not as fast as the Acura/Honda/Eclpise. But it will leave them with their mouth hanging open in the corners.
My wife hates it. She calls it Christene because it was not the most reliable daily transportation. But I won't get rid of it. It's my last piece of pre-married memorabillia (11 years ago).

.................Think I'll go for a drive.

I drove mine up to the rally at Dennyz. I coudn't get my bike finished in time for the trip. You're right it may not take the fastest of the current generation of imports but it'll blow the doors off the cars the punks drive with the rear wings, sickers and reversed wheels but run a stock 4 cylinder engine with a fart tube exhaust.

The 240z has rather low gearing gobs of torque which favors it in the short run. My Z is the only car I've ever had that will pull red line in top grear.

                  I love topics like this..

A month or so ago I was riding in North Jersey. Nothing amazing about that in particular except the bright Yellow Corvette in the right lane..White convertible top, sweet car in all respects..Well I'm listening like a hawk for any sign that he's gonna go on green, when I hear it..Grrrmmm,GGrrhhmmm...so I know its on..The light drops and I'm on it easy to make it seem like he's got a chance that his 50k car is worth it..Well the even run only lasted until about 5k on the tach and he was little more than a speck after that..by the time I shifted he had no chance..needless to say I was smiling like a big gooofball..700 bucks for the bike, and its worth every red cent..

Ya wanna piss em off. Smoke em on a hard bagger w/full fairing and the radio on, on top of that, ace em in the first cornor.
                    When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

I did that to a 600 Ninja when I 1st got the bike on the road. Had the Pacifico fairing and hard bags. Other XSives have seen my bike and it was much rougher looking when it 1st got back on the road. Yes his newer, ligher bike got the jump on me but I still torqued past him. He was very shocked at the next light.
