Depending on how much damage is on the inside I might try to patch the inside of the tire and use a tube to boot. JAT

Randy, I hear ya. I just hauled a members bike to Kansas City on a borrowed trailer to work on it this last weekend, and the bracket the front tire goes into pulled up from the trailer floor. He'd only had lag bolts into plywood for it. So the edge of the bracket ate the side out of a brand new Avon Venom with maybe 200 miles on it to the tune of $120.

Want even better news? I had just got done synching his carbs and we were color tuning the idle mixture. This bike is like a museum piece... A line got pulled off that damn octo I love so much, and gas poured out onto the motor that you have to have good and warmed up to tune right.. and POOF!! FIRE!!!! Jerked the tank off and headed to the yard with it... with the petcocks pouring fuel still and me leaving a nice trail of fire.

Russ got to it quickly with the fire extinguisher.. and luckily it was a dry chemical one that was made for fuel fires. Ol' Bigfoot was nice enough to get a shot right after the extinguisher.. you know.. to rub it in later about barbecued bikes and such.

Bike escaped fairly unscathed considering.. a couple wires with insulation damage and the left side cover got the paint blistered just a bit on the front leading edge of it. So... now the sidecover is off to a body shop to sand, match the paint EXACTLY, and repaint. The owner took it better than I hoped.

So... I know your deal sucks, Randy, but I'll trade you..

Glad every one got out OK, good you had a fire extinguisher handy. I keep one in the garage also, hope I never have to use it.

Lost a tire the same way a month ago, put a nail in it dead center in the contact patch. an ME880

Yeah, thought about that after I posted. Should have been it's own thread. I PM'd Randy to appologize.

No, no, no...don't sweat it, Tod. BTW, I can't believe you carried a tank of gas away from a fire. WTF were you thinking? Could have bee A LOT worse. Either one of us could have been a lot worse off. Be careful.

Looks like an act of terrorism to me Randy!

Did it completely penetrate the tire? I'd certainly consider a patch and tube since the tire is so new.

Terrorism? Nah.. I know where I probably picked it up, I made a traffic detour past a condo construction site nearby..

It penetrated up to the hilt..the slit is an inch wide completely through the tire. Even if it could be patched, I wouldn't trust it
