  • Xs Crazy

I think I have finally done it. I've cracked! I was told owning an Xs 11 is an addiction. Well Add me to that list. I as of 3 hours ago own 4 xs11's (2 79 specials, 80 standard, and a 81 special.) Making the grand total of 8 bikes crammed into my little one car garage. Thats about the number of bikes we had at Bob' unexpected Rally in his 10 car garage. I also picked up a 2001 suzuki gz250, and a honda 350 today for a grand total of 700 dollars. Not bad for 3 bikes in one day.

I'll agree these bikes certainly become an addiction. It's sort of like the perfect motorcycle. I said it before and I'll say it again, the XS11 can be anything you want it to be, cruiser, bobber, dresser, dragbike, cafe, racer. I think that's why they're just incredible machines. While I only have one XS, it's been stripped to the frame more times than I care to remember, tinkering and what not, like an addiction.

If I had $1 for every hour I spent messin with these xs's I'd be rich. I'm going to try to cut back to one xs this month. Selling 2 over cared for xs11s then starting my own Y.A. classes.

You should see the one I unloaded tonight. Its a 80 standard full dress that was bought new 9/12/80 one owner. Has 17xxx miles last plated 86. Only thing missing was the gas tank. I picked one up at the local salvage shop for 30 dollars. Needs a key and cleaned and creamed. They guy selling said he parked it cuz it was to hard for him to hold up anymore. He couldn't remember why he took the tank off or where it went. While loading that one up was told about a 89 ninja 600r. It was too good of a deal to pass up so I carted it home. I sold it before I backed it all the way off the truck. It will be here in my care for a bit while my friend comes up with enough cash.

                  Bikes

Matt looks like SWMBO took over the Red one. That will teach you should have got her bike done sooner. Now you will have to join the V TWIN club also. LOL. Have you figured out how to get me the XS club flag down to me yet?
                  Thanks Tom

I bought her a 81 650 maxium 2 years ago. Still working on the banner think I might drive it down sometime this week. Gives me a reason to see my sister.

Worked on the ninja today! It sat eight years because of a wiring issue. Wouldn't start at all the guy said he went through everything. Me and a friend took my wifes battery out of her bike and started to problem solve. In less than an hour we had it running. All we did was change a 30 amp fuse to the starter cylinoid . Ran real high with choke and died as soon as you tried to let off the choke but its a start. We pulled the carbs and cleaned them. will work on it some more tomorrow. The 80 standard is next in the line up my key don't match the ignition.

Worked in the 80 Standard today. Got it to turn over but not fire off. Also worked on the locks most were tight and would not turn. Only spent about 3 hours on it today. With luck I'll have her fire off tomorrow if its not raining.

My buddy Diver Ray went down south (from here!) and brought back a wrecked XS11 Special from a Dude we met at the diner next to the Jimmy Dean Memorial last year on our Central Coast Rally. It’s been collecting dust in his garage for years. He finally contacted Ray and said he was tired of looking at: “come pick it up and it’s yours.” Seems the poor B%#*ard got into a game of chicken with a Ninja. Both had girls on the back, and neither gave way. Classic “young and dumb and full of…”
The bike has good jugs, head and tranny, all of which are going into my ’79 Special. Oh yea, the jugs are “big bore” with high compression pistons!!!
Yep, they ain’t much off the road, but the XS is definitely one of the best all around standard bikes ever made! If I were a rich man, (yada yada yada dada dada dada dada dum!) I would have a stable of them!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
                          I've been riding since 1959.

To heck with the big bore, Ed -- you're finally going to have 2nd gear for the first time in how many years?! It'll be like a whole 'nother bike!
