After putting a measley 30k on my engine, it died. Spun the #1 conrod bearing and the #1 crank bearing. At this point I am not sure what caused it. Methinks the conrod bearing went south and the resultant knocking took out that end crank bearing. Could be the other way around though.The first journal on the crank is galled up, indicating it was a loss of lubrication, and the conrod is the same way, however that journal on the crank is pretty as you please.
My only guess, and its just a guess, is that the oil hole behind the seal on that side got covered by the thicker seal and somehow caused the starvation. However, I was under the impression that was a return hole. It doesn't make sense to use that seal to hold full oil pressure.
Weird.
All told, the crankcase halves, the crank, the conrod and the bearings are shot.
I don't know how many miles were on it before I got the engine, so it may have considerably more than 30k.
