  • Good Deal in WI, heads up 4 midwesteners

    Hey folks,
I was browsing the bike parts section on ebay and found this XS, looks to be a '78 or '79. Full bagger, nice fairing, apparently in nice cosmetic condition.
Only 20K miles on it. Current bid is $299. Of course, according to the description, it will need all the attention a bike that has sat for 4 years.

    Good luck.

I'd say it is a 80 myself but I could be off. IT is super clean though. I did note they had pulled the front calipers so they are probably locked up. Sure the tank and carbs need plenty of cleaning.

I recently looked at one that was almost as nice, but it looked like the engine was locked up.

The reason I think it's in the '78 - '79 range is because of the cowling behind the seat and the speedo goes to 160mph. Although the right side cover does look like an '80, they're a little rounder than the '78 '79s.
Don't know if you noticed that. It indeed looks very clean.

Your probably right on the 78-79, I did not notice the gages and cowling. I just saw the timing cover and side covers. No matter what year, it looks very clean indeed. If they could jump it and show me the engine cranks or give some compression numbers, I'd be all over it if it were closer to me.

Ok, I asked this knob, "WTF does, 'I DO HAVE THE ***** WITH THIS BIKE CLEAR AND CLEAN.' mean?"
            I mean what's that "****" $hit all about? I smell a rat.
            O/W, I'd bid on it.

does e-bay have rules about listing "title" in auctions for vehicles? Maybe he has some misunderstanding around that - he said he didn't list it in "motorcycles" to save money on listing fees.

ebay does have different fee schedules for vehicle sales vs. parts sales. You cannot even mention the title because thay consider it a vehicle sale. Plz educate yourself before you go off the deep end and end up looking less than what you think you are.

And. . . . . . the pic of the title shows it to be a 79. Shows the VIN number so someone inclined could to a search on it.

this guy seems like kind of a jerk to me

maybe he doesnt know the old saying that 'you get more flies with honey'

he added that he is going to be driving to florida, so if you live on the way you could meet him somewhere

still, dont really trust this auction

this is one of my favorite parts in the auction
I expect you will load it up and take it away or I can bring it to you, but dont expect me to get it running for you

If you don't own a fire extinguisher, do me a personal favor and go purchase one... immediately.
