  • Venice Vintage Bike rally???

Anyone ever been to it? Is it worth a day's drive? I'm new to this end of the country and the rally falls on the 11th, my birthday is the 10th so I figured I might use my birthday powers and drag the family down to that rally if its any good.

Reason I ask is back in michigan they will talk up and advertise a "vintage" show and then you get there and its 6 old Harleys and 47 vendors trying to sell crap leather and chrome crap for cruisers.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy seeing a nice old harley but I'd also like to see a bit wider selection of bikes, from all makers, and maybe even have a vendor or two whose products could actually be used on my bike.

haven;t seen it but have a question Psycho...

How did you get the turnsignals from the frame onto the taillight housing on your special?

I saw the closeup pics - did you buy/make a special threaded adapter to hook the stock ones into and drill out the taillight housing?

I like the look of bringing them in closer to the center with the bags mounted.

When I did that re-location I made new mounting bolts for my signals, the stock "studs" were bent and way to long. What I did was...
Remove one signal and take it with me to the local hardware store.
Picked up 3 or 4 different kinds of rubber washers that looked promising and were about the right size for the signal stalk. I also picked up some bolts that were the same thread as the stock "studs", some washers that size, and two of those things they sell for joining sectons of threaded rod, they are basically a nut thats about 1" thick.

When I got home I drilled out the tail light housing to the size of the stock stud.
Then I placed the head of my new mounting bolt in my vice, screwed the "thick nut" on it about half way and then screwed the straightest section of the stock stud I could find into the other side of the nut thing. I used the stock stud as a guide for the size hole I needed, and to help guide my hand drill so I could get a straight hole in the bolt.

The down side of this method is that if I ever want to remove the signals I'll have to cut the ends off the wires, because the wires will fit through the bolt but the ends won't. If my stock studs hadn't been bent I'd have just removed the wires from them and then cut them shorter.
