Most of my riding "years" were in that type of Urban situation: Commuting to/from work. Every ride was an exercise in trying to be hyper-vigilant in all directions including the glances in the mirrors at a full stop.
I learned to never relax. Never to do that, "wow. what a beautiful day to be on a bike." At least not while in that congestion.
Years later now that I have gotten back into riding again, the old habits are still there. I'm still Twitchy as heck. Sure takes down the "enjoyment factor" a notch but reminders like this are a swift poke in the ribs and with a pointed stick.
That's a good thing in my book.
