Thought I had better introduce myself since I joined your site a week or so ago. I live in Auckland, New Zealand and have enjoyed motorcycling for all of my adult life, which means 30 odd years or so. I have had all sorts of bikes over the years, road and dirt, British and Japanese mainly. Have had and still own many Yamaha models from air cooled RD's, SR500 single, XJ and FZR's and currently own a 1984 FJ1100 which I have had for 5 years, and several early 80's IT enduro bikes which I race in local VMX and Scrambles events. My reason for joining your group is that I have just purchased a 1979 XS1100 complete with sidecar outfit. This is my firsy XS11 and first sidecar, a big learning curve ahead... I will be picking it up in a weeks time and trailering it home (6 hour drive away) I would ride it home but I am recovering from multiple broken ribs sustained in a crash while racing my IT250 4 weeks ago. I will post some pics once I have the beast safely home. Hope to share some of your knowledge and hopefully contribute some too, and to make some new friends also. If your 11 has a sidecar rig... your best new buddy will surely wind up being member Fredintoon! He loves those things, and encourages everybody to get one... so you'll fit right in with him probably!

hey there steadyt120.....sounds like you had an unsteady moment eh....sorry 2 hear.....good luck with the new project....you will find many friends here in XS land......sort of being behind the scenes at disneyland, but with more motor oil and specs and no f*ckin' mouse!......buddy i ride with was in WA for 6 months and all i asked him for was a patch for the leather....

hit the "search" tab and type in "sidecar attachment" to see that you are not alone.
With a left-mount sidecar you can fit a 4 into 1 exhaust on the side opposite to the sidecar even if getting the sidecar brake pedal next to the rear one can be a major problem.

Welcome. I wonder if that's the same side car bike we saw being advertised on here? It had some front fork mods and such.

You guys Down Under really know how to ride your dirt bikes. I watched the Travis Pastrana video when they went down there and competed in a cross country race. It was the narliest looking terrain I ever saw. Lots of KTM's and crazy riders. Looked like a fun nightmare. Stay safe.

If it's the same one, I saved it to my watchlist and posted it here http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26967 to show Fred that were not all philistines down this part of the world.

Hi all, thanks for the welcome. if it was the dark burgundy one with a fern leaf motif on the sidecar then yes thats the one. Interestingly another XS11 outfit appeared on trademe for sale just after i bought this one.
