Buying gloves in person

Anyone know what kinds of stores (other than bike stores, because that's farther away) will carry some basic leather gloves that would be good for warm weather riding. I've had bad luck getting the right size on-line (nothing like wearing imprints from your gloves for an hour after riding for 15 minutes), and I'd like to get these before Saturday.

Try sporting goods stores. Maybe batting gloves. Auto parts... mechanics gloves.

My opinion on gloves is that the main purpose is to provide a comfortable grip on the controls. Protection in an accident is secondary. Looks are inimportant in my book. My gloves have stupid plastic oversized knuckles. Ok if you plan to fall off a lot. If you want to avoid glove marks then try to find some with the seams on the outside.

Again, jusy my opinion.

For warm weather, those Harbor Freight mechanics gloves work well. They're dirt cheap too, but not worth a sh!t in cold weather. I think they come in any color you want, as long as it's blue.

I also prefer the mechanics gloves. You can get them anywhere even the dollar store. I think I got mine from Menards they match my riding jacket.

I use the gloves from Harbor freight as well. I just use the construction gloves that have the extra padding on the fingers and palms to reduce vibration. The fingers are bright yellow, so the cars can see you when you let them know their total IQ or sperm count....

Wal-Mart/Target/Kmart/Toys R Us should have some bicycle gloves that should work for the short term. The gel pads on the palm will offer comfort, and the mesh backing will give ventilation. It won't be as protective as MC gloves, but it's better than nothing.

I'd almost forgotten that motorBIKES (or as I sometimes say "motorbycle") have a lot in common with those pedal machines.

Your local Justin Boot supplier. Justin makes some nice goatskin leather work gloves in black that are just about perfect for mildly cool through blazing hot weather. They are very supple and cost about $15. They also provide a decent amount of protection against the pavement. The only problem I have with them is that they tend to fly off when you leave them in your lap at a gas stop.

Because gloves are not cheap and need to be very confee to be of any value, I would make the run to a bike shop and buy what fits and feels best. If you go elsewhere you will have a very limited selection and will not get the best bang for the buck. Make hitting the bike shop part of your next trip.

Motorcycle gloves will be cut different from any other glove, and you will pay extra. The trade off is long term comfort and life. But, with budgets being what they are any glove beats no glove. For summer, fingerless gloves, I have found that most higher end bike gloves work well. I have been lucky and have never had to test there crash resistance. Winter rideing presents different climates for different areas. Higher end snowmobile gloves, for me anyway, have proven to be the top setup for "real" winter riding. Since moving to Texass, cold weather gear has not been a real issue. Now, if ya wanna talk rain gear......

Thanks for all the tips. For now, I just went to Wally-World and bought some $10 gloves by Stanley. They will work to get me through the MSF course this weekend and should be ok for the summer. They are actually pretty comfy, have padded palms, and I can even put my helmet on and do up my zipper while I have them on. Bonus, the color scheme matches my watch.

Now, time to save up for the next part of my bike that gets worn out
