jmnjrpa, shifter shaft seal can still be got from Yamaha. Shift cover/clutch cover gaskets, if wanted would be aftermarket. Myself, have a fine film of high temp grey on pan, clutch cover, and shifter cover. Not so much as a seep. Have the gaskets for both pan and clutch cover, but chose to save and not use, as I was already familiar with results over years past using these products. I use the high-temp grey being after cover is tightened even with just a thin film applied, what squishes out after set-up just pull off and looks as if cover has never been disturbed. Pan been on for more than a couple years now and not so much as a seep.81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

Thanks,
I don't like the gaskets either. Yamastealers are the last place i want to get seals from. I had a weekend must have last year for fork seals and dust rubbers- $90. Got the same seals from ebay for $15 later (spares).'81 1100 MNS - "Midnight XSpress"

Wow!,You REALLY do have a stealer there! OEM from dealer here cost me less than half that with tax.....ouch. Best part is I just left forks there and had there head mechanic take them apart, clean, dry and re-assemble.....80bucks and some change including OEM seals,15w Silcolene, and labor. He rides an 84Venture and is still likes workin' on the classic muscle bikes, specially Yammys. Have known the young(to me anyway)couple that are the dealership's owners and the head mechanic for several years. Several times have taken a wheel there to have a new tire mounted(tire,I get elsewhere) and balanced, later pick it up and told no charge, catch it another time. Had my ST head bearings replaced with tapered roller and correctly adjusted(which was a bit time consuming for correct drag) and cost 40bucks labor. Very capable myself, but alot of times just not interested in wrenching on the bikes or vehicles as I don't need the practice. If wrenchin' involves something that I would tend to be anal particular about process and results, I'll do myself. Good tipping and an occassional box of doughnuts for the shop goes a L-O-N-G ways too!81H Venturer1100 "The Bentley" (on steroids) 97 Yamaha YZ250(age reducer) 92 Honda ST1100 "Twisty"(touring rocket) Age is relative to the number of seconds counted 'airing' out an 85ft. table-top.

The thing I've found about the shaft seals on these bikes; good bearing shops should be able to get them for a fraction of the price as say Yamaha or Bike bandit$. Just get the number off the seal, the numbering system is pretty much standard.2H7 (79) owned since '89
