  • Rubber renewer has been found

Bullet has discovered that the Rubber Renewer that so many people have asked me about is in fact still available at NAPA. It is however now described in their part list as rubber cleaner but the container label says rubber renewer. It also is sporting a new part number which is 3103. It is however, now only sold in larger size.
3.8 liters perhaps but I don't remember and didn't write it down.

Just picked it up today, and it is indeed the same stuff only in a larger size now.

My supplier at NAPA tells me they discontinued the smaller ( quart / liter ) size a while ago and it can only be had in the ( 3.78 Liter / US Gallon size ) now.

UAP / NAPA BodyPro part number is 3103.

Now I just gotta find time to get my XS together

How well does it work? I've always been sketchy of that stuff afraid that it would eat away the rubber a bit more than desired. I always use soapy water steel wool and elbow grease. Then if the oxidation isn't to deep I'll follow it up with a little turtle wax polishing compound.

I haven't tried it yet myself, gotta get my rubber bits together today and soak them for 24 hours .. ( I will take before and after pics )

Some of my rubber stuff is butt ugly, so if this stuff works, I will be a happy camper..

Rob said it worked great in his last build thread ..

I let ya all know ..

I just got done cleaning most of my brake rubber parts, and I used the HF ultrasonic cleaner with a heavy mix of simple green and the built-in heat. It worked very well; it basically dissolved any crusted-on rust/dirt and a good rinse in hot tap water and wipe-down made the parts look new.

I'm fairly impressed with this unit and would recommend it. I wonder how this stuff would work in the ultrasonic cleaner?

Check the instructions!!! I have never soaked anything in it that long and never needed to. 15 to 20 min soak followed by cleaning with a soft brush.

                  79XS11F,

Did you ever try this stuff on the petcock o-ring (between tank and petcock) gaskets?

Was thinking of trying it out to see if it would "fluff" them up a bit. Didn't want to be the second person to ruin them if someone has already tried it out.

I have never used it to reverse fuel contact damage or wear. It's not really designed to do that. It removes normal oxidation and embedded dirt.

I took the eyelet off of the front fender. The one that guides the spedo cable and gave it a 20 minute soak in some cleaner used for restoring the rollers in copiers and printers and it came out soft and pliable as when it was new.

Don't know how long it will last but it sure installs nice.

Just FYI I went to my local napa and they can not get this stuff. I talked to the Store manager (by luck) and he really went the extra mile trying to find it. According to him BPR isn't a valid NAPA line code and he's never heard of Body Pro or Rubber Renewer. He also said that all NAPA's don't all carry the same things, they are allowed to carry whatever products they can source and sell so maybe some NAPA's have it but mine doesn't....

Turns out this is a Canada-only item. Go to the Canadian NAPA site and it pops right up (right number and everything), but no sign of it on the US NAPA site....

So I wonder if there's some sort of import restriction? Is there a list of ingredients for this stuff? Biodegradable? I assume it's made in Canada, but if not, where is it made?

Maybe a 'rubber renewer railroad' could be set up to sneak this over the border to us deprived southern xsessives...
