I know exactly what you mean about looking your family in the eyes after something like this. I know first hand. 20 years ago, I sold mine and gave them up, too, after a wicked crash. Counted myself as lucky, and thought, "That might have been my only lucky time, too!" I had my family to consider... my wife just looked me in the eyes, never said a word... didn't have to...

All I can say is... you do what you gotta do that's right for you & your family. No judgements from here.
I'm just glad to hear you're on your way back... and I'm sure glad I decided to check in on your progress tonight. Just know I am VERY concerned about you.

As son as I am mobile enough I heading out to Batesville Indiana to the Hillrom Company headquarters who makes almost all hospital beds and kick them in the teeth or lower. These idiots make beds for years and years and still can not locate the bed controls so someone laying in the bed can reach them.

Yeah, I know a salesperson for Hillrom. The controls are that way so the person who has a little mental injury as well as physical can't "hurt themselves". I know it wouldn't take much to make the panel movable, so the hospital can put it in an easy to reach location for people like you.
Glad to see your doing well, and DO think about keeping the bike for the year! I know the local XS community will help with the rebuild, and keep it running well for you!
And as for Kat, well, John is the ONLY reason she is still a lady!

Tod, Banshee was always a fix and sell project. But it will be heart breaking to sell Thunderstruck. But, really, even if I keep it, it would be a year before I could be riding again. I screwed it up that badly. And yes, apparently I left two things at the scene of the accident, my glasses, and a piece of my leg bone. So a bone graph is not out of the question yet for my future. Only time will tell.

Who says I can't play chase vehicle for the SWOXS rides in a rail buggy though, or seriously tuned and tweaked Porsche 914.

You know, my last bike almost twenty years ago ended in a big friggin crash wich I very very luckily escaped with stiches and a fractured right elbow. This time it ended with a lot more serious injuries and I am still VERY lucky to not have had any back or kneck injuries, or torn ligaments or tendons or nerve damage for all the stuff I tore up. Or even to have made it from that hillside to hospital with all the damamge.

who knows, maybe in another ten years I'll try again. Either way, you can't get rid of me from this wonderful group of folks, even if you tried.

It is good to be back to something normal like. Good to read and see all the cool stuff going on while I was indesposed. You know, it is interesting how little things can make such a big differrence in eas eof doing anything. Glad to hear you are on the mend. I haven't posted anything b4, but I have been following and thinking about you a lot since I heard. I wish you a speedy and full recovery.

Oddly enough, I am a strange exception to this rule. I am a fat guy and I sink. If I stop moving in water, I go down. As a child I could float very well. I wish I could still float.

I'm not fat, but the only part of me that floats is my head, the rest makes like bricks. The only thing I can figure is all those people telling me my head is full of hot air are onto something.

Firstly I'd like to say it is nice to hear that things are mending and recovery is well under way. I hope to never experience such an incident, but I hear there are only 2 types of bikers : those who have gone down and those who will go down.

Being a fat guy myself, I know they float equally well face down. They'd have had to bring in a porpoise handler to turn you over.

Wow.

Nothing like that O'sh!T moment when you know you are about to take a big bite of pain.... Mine came and went with out the pain part but I can still replay every little detail.

Glad you are getting along without so much of the pain. There is a pretty extended family here so I don't think fixing up your bike will be much trouble.

Concentrate on getting yourself back in shape. Really glad you are able to get to the keyboard and share that.

Take care of yourself and listen to the doctors.
