Just brought the beast home today. Its a 1958 Willys Wagon. Its got a long way to go before its roadworthy, but Ive got loads of top notch parts that I was going to use on my Grand Cherokee, but decided not to. Ive got a rebuilt Mopar Magnum engine, transmission, transfer case, and custom axles already, ready to install. I think this is going to be a fun project and I thought some of you old timers might appreciate this old american iron.

Im also planning on installing a wheel chock and tie down points in the rear cargo area so I can transport my bike if I need to. I dont think Id want to try to load up my XS in there, but my FZRs would fit nicely!1981 XS11SH Custom Project - Juggernaut

Been a while since I've seen one of these...
A buddy used to have one until it got cut in half by a train (long story; nobody hurt, but one pissed-off train crew), and that wagon would go anywhere. His was a '49 (and looked identical, they never changed these much!) and had a '53 Merc flathead V-8 swapped in (hey, this was 'back in the day'). Stock gearing (which was what, 4:44s? something looow) with a Warn overdrive for highway. His rig could be driven up hills that the Chevy-powered Jeeps had to take runs at, sounding like an old tractor. He used to drive those guys crazy...
Good luck with it!

That's Cool! Great rebuild project choice!
Please post pics of the ongoing process!
I have a friend who used to have a Jeepster Commando, installed a Buick V-6 intercooled turbo from a Buick Grand National Regal.... but kept the granny 4 speed and stock diffs... that thing would climb straight up a brick wall, but really sucked on the highway! Great 4 wheeler, though!
Good luck w/ the project. Love those old Willys.'82 XJ1100J Maxim (has been sold.)

Old Jeeps
Yes us old timers love these four wheel drives. At one time i had a 53 willys, two 64 willys wagons, two 62 International Scouts, 69 jeep J3000 pickup, and a 72 Chev Blazer. I had all of these at the same time so i do like the four wheel drives. I now have a 98 Chev four wheel drive pickup. Thanks Tom

I think it would look good lowered back down, with a surfboard strapped to the roof! Wood-grain panneling on the doors would be a nice touch too.1980 XS850SG - Sold
