log in failures

I guess maybe I dont have something set up right, but I keep getting delogged in ,, after a period of time. Is it that everytime a person does another post that they have to log in again. Is there something I can change in my profile or something, maybe the puter but doubt it since this doesnt happen on the nine site.

When you log in there is a box you need to check that says "keep me logged in"

I've never checked the box, I stay logged in as long as you continue to view threads or enter post every 5 minutes or somthing like that. If you appear inactive for some period of time (5-10 minutes I think it is) you will be automatically logged out. Unless you use the button Okie mentioned I guess.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the tips. I do check the button for keeping me logged in. I am thinking, that since I read extensively on the threads, that maybe there is no cursor use for the time period, just scrolling down with the roll thing on the mouse. Not much of a clicker I guess.

My post counter is varying, the other day I had forty four, then the next day it was thirties, and now am back to forty even , both with yesterdays post and todays, haha. Does it show to be forty to you guys too with todays previous post, or maybe my posts are being removed in housecleaning or something??

I've been having a little bit of trouble staying logged in lately myself...

I can go to a post and open one of the links in a new tab only to find that I'm logged out of the original tab... I've never had that happen until the last week or so...

yamtom... if a post that you had responded to has been removed, it will lower your count... Other than that... not sure... unless one of the mods is just messing with you... but I kind of doubt it.
I'm pretty much the only one that would do that (that I know of) and I don't do it...

The last week or so I have found the site to be slow. It is also logging me out when I post something. I have had to reload on a few occasions as well. I am finding if I get thru a slow period it seems to come around and all goes well after that. I have gone thru my internet options and deleted all cookies etc but this happens almost every log in lately.

Can't say I have had that problem. I use two different computers and a smartphone to access the site, and can't say I have had to log on more than once per computer except for the times I have cleared all my cookies, or changed browsers.

As soon as I posted my previous post here, the slowness was back. It was taking between 13 and 29 seconds to change from one page to another. I was timing it to see how really slow it was. I have checked everything on my end that I know of. Other sites I go to see to be working fine. Facebook is slow as usual but everything else is fast. Checked my download speeds and they are all good (High Speed cable). If anyone has any suggestions as to what else to check please let me know.

I just did a little test. I logged in to the site and then didn't log out before I went on to some other sites on the web. When I came back to channel 11 I found out that I was still logged in. So I guess unless I click on the <Log Out> button then whenever I come back I'll see my name listed on the site as <active>. That's a cool thing but if I turn off my laptop and go out for the day/night it can be misleading for others to see my name listed or the green light next to my name in my posts. Not a fatal flaw IMO.

I believe that the checking the <Remember Me> box is how the site/my computer keeps me from having to type in my name and password each time I want to log in. May or may not have much to do with staying logged in. I dunno.

I do know that after I've tried to reply to a post without logging in, the site asks me to log in. That's just the site being smarter than I am. But the site sometimes requires me to log in a second time when I hit the <Submit Reply> or <Preview Post> button. I know that's usually because I've taken too much time to compose my l-o-n-g posts. (That I've tried to keep up with the rest of you all by actually typing my posts instead of using the speech-to-text thingy...My Bad!!)

The thing that has appeared recently is that even though I've hit the log in button and submitted my name/password, I don't get logged in. The site doesn't show that I've done anything at all. Repeated attempts to log in fail as well: either from the home page or from the other login areas. For me the solution was to bail out on the site altogether, visit a couple other places on the web, and then to try...try again here. Even that has been hit and miss a few times.

Till now I just thought that it was just another flakey thing about my browser: Google Chrome.

A few days ago, there were quite a number of members and guests on the site at the same time. Again, there could be problems with the weather and transmission due to power outages in the northeast and such!?

Our IT guy Wes Saunders will be doing another upgrade to the site in the future due to newer security updates that have been made by the vBulletin folks, and the older version we have will require some down time to install them, but that hasn't happened yet. Once we get the newer version of vBulletin installed, they have improved the program so that future upgrades won't require as big a deal to install compared to the older version.

I would suspect that the site might slow down on Friday nights thru the weekend due to increase traffic over the "NET" with folks streaming videos and such!?

Yes, when you have the check box checked, you SHOULD stay logged in until you either CLEAR/erase your cookies or you log yourself back out. The site is able to monitor when a user is actually accessing the site due to the handshake processes with your IP address and such, so WHEN you leave the site, it KNOWS it and doesn't show you as still ON the site, only when you come back and are actually viewing the site. However, errors with cookies can occur which is why you might get logged out even when you didn't select to!

As to the post counts, yes, a few threads were deleted due to spammer posts being the first post in a thread, and the replies were not really necessary type content, so they get deleted. They also have to get deleted when the 1st post of a thread gets deleted due to being a SPammer, I can pick and choose other replies AFTER a 1st thread post, but not the 1st post, because it anchors the thread.
