Hi Fred, I'm happy to see that your sense of humor has improved over the last few years.

Sheb Wooley would be proud of you

Pisses me off. Now that tune keeps popping into my head.
Showing our age are we dbeardslee

there is no good color other than BLACK
Your probably right 81. I’ve been contemplating other colors while looking at some of the other bikes in the garage. They look very good in black. I had hoped for a little inspiration here.

When I had my 1980 SG and 1981 SH repainted a couple of years ago, I went with the candy red for one of them. I was so tempted to try a dark green with metal flake on the other with a tan seat. I chickened out and had the other painted maroon with a black seat.

      "No guts, no glory!"

If I had the money....and I don't...I'd like to have my Raider (silver) painted dark blue with that water effect showing lighter blue waves/streaks or whatever they are called when you look into deep water on a sunny day.

        Hi mro,
I am being serious here. I had fancied yellow but everyone was selling yellow bikes that year which soured me on the colour.
So I told the paint man:-
"I want something bright, like the colour of Astro's tow trucks."
"We keep that colour in stock, sir."

          black is beautiful

I'm also in the " you can't possibly go wrong with black" camp. My kinda bobber/ kinda cafe is being done: frame all flat black; tank, fenders and side covers (fabricated) all satin black; pipes, supertrapp 4 into 1 megaphone, all flat black; motor, jugs etc. flat black; covers, valve etc. all satin black; haven't decided whether to expose the jug fins, but leaning in that direction; the wheels will remain original until everything else is done; but I had a Kawasaki KZ1100 done very similarly and I did the wheels all silver and loved the result. We'll see. Black, black, black and black; it's all good!

Will say, that I've seen some very cool looking "blackout" cafes, streetfighters at a meet that we have up in Seattle once a month in good weather season (usually several hundred bikes show up each month) ... anyway, some of them go for the very dark red, or bright red contrast with black and it comes off real well.
A fine running motor is a tune you just can't get out of your head.

I am currently prepping parts for paint. Doing tanks, side covers, vetter and bags. I have pretty much decided that I am going with a Black with Cherry pearl. It was a color on the 1988 Dodge Daytona C/S, I liked it a lot on a car I saw. I hope it looks as sweet on the bike.

Well I did take a look at a purple bike .... and
while looking saw another that was a very dark deep rust (if that makes sense) pretty cool.

Not going to make up my mind until I get the frame stripped down.
Hmm, black and rust...just like the last 81 special I got

                    hey mro,

what colour are you doing the frame?

ive seen some of them painted the same colour
as the rest of the bike (besides black )
                    and they look pretty good.

xs11lover, all those bikes are beautiful, your one lucky man. :-)

                      okay two thoughts...

                      1. at the end of the day, it's just paint. the bike is what matters, and as long as it isn't horrible, it is still gonna look like a BAD scoot!!

                      2. try something. get a color, and paint the side cover. there is some risk involved, but very little, i can sand and repaint in a day. really, this is YOUR bike, have some fun with it. (as long as it isn't pink, that is). if you have always wanted a green bike, do it. i bought mine because i wanted something to make mine. so i am painting mine a brown/reddish color. i love it. the badging will stand out, it doesn't look like everyone else's and that is the color i wanted. have fun with it, and make it yours.

Taking a break right now from working on some engine parts.
Now have oil filter cover, shift shaft cover and valve cover ready for powder coating. (except tape to cover the polished areas)
Hope I can get a couple more parts done today.

Engine and frame will be black.
